Someone had mentioned to me that it would be really special for my son to have his first haircut on Mainstreet USA. Can you offer more info on this? Do they take appointments? How much does it cost? I'm a Disney NUT but I'll be darned if I can remember where the barber shop is! Is it by Casey's Corner? :confused3

The Barbershop is on the left near the beginning of Main Street at the front of MK. If I recall correctly, the first haircut was around $15 and the barber does a great job! They kept my son busy with Mickey stickers and let him play with a spin toy. They also gave him a certificate and Mickey Ears hat celebrating his first haircut. There are no appointments so get there early, and there was no official "line" or "list" when we were there so try to remember who you are behind. The barbers were good at keeping track who was next. We waited a little over an hour but we did get a chair and DS napped. Also, we did get to see the Barbershop quartet sing. I'm not sure how often they perform at the Barbershop.

They also do adults and older kids, with colored hair gel and Mickey glitter confetti if you want.

It was a fun experience. Bring your camera!!!!
Have a great time!

We have had our first haircuts there as well and had a great time. It was $14 at the time and the barbers were excellent. They kept the kids distracted so they didn't even know their hair was being cut. They put it all into a bag for us, with pixie dust, and gave us a certificate and mouse ears to wear. It is first come, first served but there are times when the wait is very small.

This has become a new tradition for our family. In 2004 both kids got their first haircuts at the barber shop, and we returned a few weeks ago for DS's cut and some pixie dust for DD. The cuts are $14 for kids. If you're only doing a hairstyle with pixie dust the cost is $5. Have a great time...it's a wonderful experience for all! :wizard:

We're on our way in May - and that is the reason for this trip! (OK - we're going to play too, but the haircut is what directed the date. ;) )

From what I've gathered it sounds like 99% of the time the barber is great - but that 1% is enough to take note - take time to see how the barbers are interacting with other customers - if one seems to be having an off day (not keeping the child entertained etc) then wait and ask for the other one. It is a rarity, but everyone has an off day once in a while, ya know? ;)

Just a quick question...how old have your children been for the 1st haircut? DS will be 8 months when we go and I'm thinking about giving it a shot.

My ds was 13mos (he was 12wks early, so 10 mos adjusted age at the time). We had Maura and she was great!

Here's a pic:

Maura gave my granddaughter her first cut ... she was nearly 6, but she still got the stickers, the certificate, the special *ears*, plus a glittery do!!!

We also gotten haircuts from Heather and Michael — all three are GREAT!!!

My son was a year and a half when he got his FIRST haircut...and we did it at the Main Street Barber shop! Maura also did his...he had a great time! We have made it a tradition, too. Every time we go to WDW, he gets his hair cut! Now that he is 4, he gets colored gel and a mickey head on the back, complete with Pixie Dust. It's HELL to get that stuff out of their hair, but it's soooo much fun!!!!

P.S. How do you attach pics on here?!?

This sounds like so much fun! Thanks for the info! Jake is going to be a few days shy of 1 year. He doesn't really NEED a haircut yet, in fact people usually think I've had it cut already since it's growing in so nicely. However, it's getting a tiny bit long in the back and I think it would just be so cute.

But what the heck is pixie dust? I don't know if I'd want colored gel put in his hair. They give him a set of Mickey ears with the cut? I won't have to buy him any then? Can I take them and have them embroidered? Thanks for all the info! :sunny:

My 3 year old had her first haircut in June at the barbershop. Her hair was down her back and we had several inches cut off. She was a little nervous, but ended up really feeling like hot stuff! they even gave her an up-do and painted mickey ears on her and loaded her with mickey confetti! She got ears and a certificate and they wrapped her hair up in a cute bag for me. I couldn't beleive how reasonable it was my other daughter got her hair put up and mickey painted on hers and it was under $30 with the tip. They LOVED all of the attention they got all day. They felt really special when they got to tell others where they could get their hair done.

The Mickey Ears say MY FIRST HAIRCUT on the back of them...already embroidered. My son is 4 and of course, we still have them!

Oh, and Pixie Dust is glitter and colored Mickey Heads. I didn't do it for the first haircut, but I do it now that DS is older! He thinks he looks cool! :groom:

My son was 15 months when we took him to WDW specifically for his first haircut! DH was, um, a bit surprised when I told him DS was getting a $2500 haircut. ;)

Heather did his first cut and she was great. I haven't seen them do the pixie dust or glitter for little ones, which was okay with me. See below for DS with his First Haircut ears at the pole outside the barber shop!

We're doing this on our trip in March. DD will be getting her 1st haircut at 13 months. Even before we had a child we had decided that their first haircut would be at WDW.

...we are planning our next trip for December. Since Jake really doesn't need his hair cute yet, I wonder if we should just wait 'til then. Think it'll be too long by then? I'm not really into the "girl curls" if you know what I mean. Hmm... decisions, decisions....

Of course, if it gets rediculously long, we could always take a special trip up there since we DO live in FL!
