First experience with ADR

A bit bizzarre. Asked for Boma's at 5pm the Thursday we arrive (3 weeks), no luck. She looked for other days, booked solid. Then she came back with "how about 5:15 on Thursday?"

So it seems that 5pm is booked, but 15 minutes later is OK. The restaurant opens at 5pm. Do people eat that fast?

Well I'm glad I called, I thought with it being a buffet we could just walk in, but after reading this board I decided to make reservations. I guess the recession hasn't affected them much!

no, but they stagger the sittings because the waiters can only do so many tables...so they seat a bunch, the waiters get the drink orders, then while they're filling the first group's orders, the next group of diners get seated, and so on.

They can't seat the entire restaurant at once...can you imagine the stampede to the buffet lines, lol.

It is a bit unusual, but it's just that they have a certain amount of slots for each time period, so they won't have every table available right at 5. It takes some getting used to. But you'll be fine.
