Hi everyone!
We just got back from WDW and we had one of the best times of our lives! Although my wife and I had gone on our honeymoon to EuroDisney, this time was our first to Orlando and our first family vacation too. Weve got 2 kids: boy age 3 and girl age 1.
We arrived to MCO on a Sunday noon and everyone at the Disneys counter were so helpful to us with a smile fixed on their face and willing to help and make us feel comfortable.
Took the shuttle to Caribbean Beach where I had to wait less than 5 minutes to get everything ready and be on our way to our room (advanced check-in suggested!)
Our room was on the 2nd floor of the Jamaica building and we crossed the bridge to go to the pool, where we enjoyed our drinks until sunset. Then we had a bath, changed clothing and took the bus to Hollywood studios where we boarded the ship to the boardwalk for dinner at Spoodles (nice choice).
The next day, a Monday, we went to Magic Kingdom. There we went to Tomorrowland first for a race at Indys race course and then to Buzzs space adventure (both ok for my 3 year old boy). After that we went to meet Mickeys at his house and took some pictures. When we exited Judge´s tent we went to Goofy´s rollercoaster for a ride and had lunch at Pinocchios Haus (in front of the carrousel). Nearby is Sir Mickeys, good place to buy stuff (cheaper than Main Street USA) and offers to embroider your cap. We took pictures with Winnie and Tigger and then my boy wanted to play at Poohs playground, where we rested for a while.
After that we went for a ride on the train (not running all days) and stepped off at Frontierland station. From there we walked to Pooh´s attraction (my baby girl loved it) and had dinner at Liberty Tavern (acceptable place). We ended the day with the 9 pm parade
On Tuesday we went to Hollywood studios. First thing was to get fastpasses for ToyStory. It was 11 am and they were only offering them for 6:30!!! We decided not to take them and the line was indicating a 50 minute wait, so no ToyStory for us. Instead we went to the Jedi Academy, it was fun, although my boy was too young to participate. Beside there was Star Tours, although Im a huge fan of SW I found this attraction a bit old and disappointing. Nevertheless it has a huge SW store at the exit.
Before lunch we went to Rock n Rollercoaster, 100% recommended, and then we casually strolled alongside Sunset Boulevard till we reached Mama Melrose. Very good place for lunch with superb flatbread and calamari to share.
In the afternoon we went to Indiana Jones epic stunt show but something weird happened. The ball that chases Indiana caught him so the show got cancelled 5 minutes after it `d started. I´m gonna upload my video to youtube so you can watch it.
Rain started to pour so we decided to go to Little Mermaid´s show (nice for small kids, you may get wet!) and to Mickey´s Clubhouse show (very nice!). That night we went for a cheeseburger at CBR, to tired to dine at any other place
On Wednesday we went back again to MK. This time we discovered Adventure & Frontier land, which we had on purpose left unvisited on Monday. Got early fast passes for Splash Mountain and later on for Big thunder mt. We had lunch again at Pinocchios, around 3 pm, and since not many people were at the park that day we were lucky and only waited less than 5 minutes at Mickeys judge tent for another session of photos. We went like 4 times to Dumbo and the Carrousel too, plus one hour brake at Ariels grotto.
For dinner we went, without reservation, to Crystal Palace and only had to wait 20 minutes before we had our table. We had a wonderful time there, absolutely recommended.
On Thursday we switched to Animal Kingdom, I think the least attractive of the three I went to (we didnt go to Epcot, considered it kid unfriendly IMHO). We first went to Rafikis attraction, nothing fancy, and after that we took the Safari (Wed already been to South Africa before, so we found the ride a bit unrealistic, although it´s very well conceived for those who hadn´t been to a real safari). Then, while my wife and son queued to get into the Kali river rapids attraction, I got fastpasses for Expedition Everest and for killing time I roamed along the park. Expedition Everest attraction is freaking awesome and 100% recommended for those of you who love rollercoaster attractions. We went for lunch at the Dinosaur restaurant, quick meals only, and stayed for a while at the playground section (my 3 year old loved it). Summing up: not a park I´d go if I only had few days to spare definitely.
For dinner we went to California Grill (absolutely recommended) where we had a wonderful sight of the fireworks.
Friday was our last day so we decided it was gonna be a BIG day. Therefore MK was again the choice and we strolled along the park calmly in no hurry, just going to those attractions we really enjoyed or those that were empty (small world). We had lunch at Tony´s (lovely place, hope you can dine outside watching Main St USA) and enjoyed every single moment to the last. We left when the park was closing, and took beautiful pictures of the park at night practically deserted!
Overall opinion: great place to go with small children! Dining offer is ample and varied, perfectly suitable for everyone. Had fun all the time and the crew is so warm and helpful! Magic Kingdom is the best place to go with small children, although Hollywood studios is my second choice. I didnt like quite much Animal Kingdom and I ran away from Epcot.
Hope you enjoyed it and was helpful planning your vacation!
