First day, what to do?

I still haven't figured out what to do on our first day. We arrive early 9:30am. I figure we'll be heading out of the airport by 10:30am. We are staying at Cypress Pointe Grandvillas and I highly doubt our room will be ready so what should we do? I'll need to pick up some food and things but I can't do that until we can get into the room. Any suggestions for the late morning, early afternoon? By the way the kids are 11, 7, 4.

Thanks

My guess is that by the time you leave out of the airport everyone will start getting hungry.

Spend the time to drive over to where you are staying and familiarize yourself with the area. That was the biggest hurdle for me when I stayed in a vacation home--figuring out where I was in relation to the off-site restaurants, Wal-Mart, etc. Just drive around and get a feel for the area.

Then go someplace and have a "nice" lunch and relax. I know that we were kind of beat when we got off the plane having had to get packed up early, out of the house, the whole ordeal. It was kind of nice to unwind.

After you do that, it might be late enough to possibly get into your place or to at least make a start on the groceries.

Cypress Pointe Resort just a short walk away has a great Volcano Pool. We chilled by the pool until our room was ready. They had a lot of great activities for the kids to participate in so pick up a schedule at the desk there maybe something for them to go and do also while you wait if you don't want to swim.

You could try a round or two of mini golf. There are lots of them around.

Other suggestions;
Explore Celebration for a bit.
Wander downtown Disney.
Gatorland

If you are able to store your luggage or have it all locked in the trunk of your car out of site) - you have a lot of time to do something.

Since you will be in your car anyway, head for a lunch away from the world. I always go to Sweet Tomatoes up on Kirkman Road by Universal. They open at 10:30 and everything is fresh in the morning. I have found that Cypress Point's desk staff wont even talk to you about an early check in until after 12 noon. Stop by after lunch (after noon) and inquire about an early checkin. If not possible, killing time around the pool or playing mini-golf are good options.

Also, a stroll through Disney's Marketplace is great during the day. There are less people than at night. The kids can play at the Lego place. You can ride the boats around. If you want, you can eat lunch at Rainforest Cafe instead of Sweet Tomatoes.

To kill even more time, you can hang out at Animal Kingdom Lodge at look at the animals. Most disappear for their daily checkups around 2.

Have fun!
