Our first day is relax at the resort go swimming in the pool. Then at night go to downtown disney were our first stop is at the t-shirt store to make up our own family vacation shirts. Same shirts for the whole family. Then go to dinner and spend the night shopping and walking around taking in the atmosphere. Then before we leave go to Ghirardelli ice cream for dessert. Magic kingdom the next day for our first full day in disney !!
On arrival day, we also go to Disney Springs in the evening and have dinner at T-Rex, without fail. Our first park day is always Magic Kingdom, and our first ride is Space Mountain.
Hunt through the car rental garage for our favourite, the Chevy Big Thing. (had to settle for a Honda Big Thing in March though!) Drive to condo/hotel, get settled in then if offsite, a customary visit to the magical world of Walmart for copious amounts of M&Ms we can't get in the UK/Butterfingers. Probably brought back a roll or something for dinner, or dinner at our resort's QS.
Then bed because I'm usually falling asleep by 9pm and will be up at the crack of dawn the next day! First day is ALWAYS MK. It's not a proper holiday until I see the castle!
Growing up we always took one of those 0darkthirty flights so we could be at the hotel by 10 or so. After check-in we would go straight to MK and grab lunch. After that, it just depended on age. As a small child I think we started with Small World or Mr. Toad. As I got bigger it became Space Mountain...and that has pretty much always been my first choice since. However, my net trip will be different as I will be bring my kids for the first time and I don't think any of them will be tall enough for Space Mountain. I'll ride it at some point, but our trip will be about them more than about me.
Our arrival times vary so much that our tradition is a "first FULL day" tradition. Must have Mickey waffles with our first WDW breakfast before heading to the parks.
First day we Go to the town Hall for my disabilities pass, Narcoosees for dinner and wishes on site. It's The new tradition because it's The second Time we Will Go to Disney and i have The same plan.
I always try to get us the earliest flight I can in order to maximize our arrival day. We always go during the Food and Wine Festival, so our first day routine is to check in to the resort and head straight to Epcot. The last several years we ate dinner at Biergarten on our arrival day, but I decided to take a break from that and we are eating and Rose and Crown on our arrival night this year.
First day (for the last 25 years) has been Epcot. Space Ship Earth is the first attraction. It does not feel like "home" until we do that. Dinner first night has always been Restaurant Marakesh in Morocco. After that, it is the rest of the night in Epcot.
we stay at a hotel in Kissimmee the night before, then early morning head to our resort. then Magic Kingdom and beeline for Carousel of Progress! man... May cannot come fast enough :-/
Nope, no first day traditions. We do something different every time I think, depending on our arrival time, EMH hours, how many park days we plan to do. We've done MVMCP on arrival day, EMH hours at DHS, no park on that day (planned to visit pool but it rained too hard so went to Disney Springs instead before afternoon tea at GF.)
We are another DTD/Earls people! Depending on how early/late we arrive we also try to hit MK for Wishes. There is nothing better than having a nice relaxing day with a sprinkle of the Disney magic you're about to surround yourself in.
Coming across from England we always so tired and kinda just want to get to Hotel and settle in. On our first full day in Disney its Magic Kingdom . The magic it creates when you see that castle for the 1st time of your trip really gets you into the mood
We start our first day off at MK and have to ride Space Mountain according to my children. Even though it's been super-rough lately (is that because I'm getting old??) I will take one for the team for traditions sake!!
We hit the parks. It's usually MK but we did Epcot since we stayed at the Beach Club on our last trip. I tried to slow my crew down by throwing in an ADR to Beaches and Cream last trip, but my boys were antsy despite the gigantic piles of ice cream in front of them to get into the park. Lesson learned. Parks are first for us.
We usually arrive mid-morning, check in to our hotel and relax for a bit, and then we throw caution to the wind and take the very 1st theme park bus that arrives at the resort! Great to be so carefree!!
With all the planning now, I think our new 1st day tradition will be to just wing it. No plans, no parks, no adrs just a day where we do whatever we want whenever we want.
Typically we arrive early afternoon, get settled in to our condo, including a trip to grocery store. Then, it's always Earl of Sandwich at DTD/Disney Springs! So yummy!!!! (On a side note, it's going to be tough to get used to calling it "Disney Springs"!)
