Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum, I first stumbled across it when I was doing research for our cruise. This cruise was the first cruise my husband and I have ever been on, and we couldn't have made a better choice.
We were celebrating our first wedding anniversary, and since we were married at WDW last year, what better way to celebrate than on the DCL. I have to say that my DH and I are thoroughly and completely hooked on DCL, just as much if not more so than on WDW.
From top to bottom, from beginning to end...our experience was fabulous.
We left
Virginia early Sunday morning, flying straight to Orlando to board the ship that afternoon. We couldn't have picked a better time to go considering the madness surrounding the area at the time. The transfer to Port Canaveral went smoothly, as did everything else we experienced.
Our stateroom was great. We had room 7134, which had been unexpectedly upgraded the week before our cruise from 7122. We went from a category 7 to a category 5. From a navigators verandah to a full verandah. It was lovely and we spent every morning and night out on the verandah, just enjoying the view. It was bigger than I expected, expecially after hearing the accounts of friends who've been on other cruises. I could see how it would be cramped for more than 2 though, but it would be manageable. We were also a very short walk to the "secret" verandah on deck 7, which was very nice.
We were very lucky when we went to dinner. We took the earlier seating, and was pleasantly greeted by our dinner mates and servers. We were pegged as a party table right from the get go and hit it off well with all of our dinner mates. We were joined by another couple who were celebrating their 33 wedding anniversary, a couple who had just gotten engaged at WDW and a woman with her granddaughter. Fun bunch!
The dinners were wonderful. The only thing I tried that I didn't like was the lobster bisque. It was a little too salty for my taste...well, a lot too salty, but that was on the last night we were on board.
We only reserved a couple things, one was the Catamaran and reef snorkeling trip at Nassau, which was excellent. We had great time and saw a ton of fish. Beautiful, and the ride back was relaxing. Lots of sun and fun all around. The only thing I could have done without was the life jacket I got, one of the straps came up right between my legs. But once I got in the water, I didn't even notice it anymore. LOL
The other thing we reserved was a couples massage in a cabana on the beach at Castaway Cay. AAaaahhhhh....what a way to start the day. Our appointment was at 10am, so we pretty much went straight there after getting off the ship. Which is something I would not do next time. We missed out on exploring some of the island by doing that. We had to speed past the photographers taking pics, and go straight there. We got up a little late and just got off the boat at 9am, and it took about a half hour to get there. Next time, we'll get off earlier or make the appointment a little later, maybe 11am. But once we got there, it was beautiful, breathtaking. I could have stayed at CC the whole trip. No words can describe it. I've never been more relaxed. We even saw three dolphin/porpoise swimming a couple hundred yards out. Once we grabbed a couple chairs and an umbrella, it was time for our appointment. Aaahhhhh...mmmmm....ooohhhh. My DH and I were on beds right next to eachother in the same cabana. We could hear birds, the ocean, and feel a slight breeze as our massueses worked on us. We had full body massages, facials and scalp massages. It's definitly on par if not above to what I've received at my local day spa. It was my DH's first, and he's hooked. LOL Who wouldn't be. Afterwards we just enjoyed wading in the water, looking at the fish, snails, stingray, and then just relaxing reading a book, soaking up the sun. Heaven...
After we grabbed a bite to eat, around 2pm, it rained for about 20minutes. But we had met up with some of our dinner mates and had a conch cooler at the bar and waited for the rain to pass. That's all the rain we saw the whole trip.
While we were at Freeport, we opted to stay on board all day. Which was perfect for us. We spend quite a long relaxing time at the Quiet Cove, does anyone else want this pool in their back yard. I love that you can sit in the water and not be but a few inches deep. I sat reading, soaking up the sun, staying cool and relaxed. Someone at the pool introduced me to a BBC...bananas, baileys and something...mmm....mmm...good. I had about 4. LOL Then DH and I grabbed a bite for lunch, we loved the hamburgers and hotdogs. Afterwards we sank back into the water and waited for the belly flop contest. My DH had a enough sun so he went back under the shade, while I kept my front row seating for the contest. Ran into our dinner mates again. Enjoyed the flop contest. A gentleman I met while lounging in the pool entered, after trying to get me to enter, and he won. Then one of my dinner mates participated in the scavengar/musical chairs game thing...too funny...it was a riot. LOL
One other memory that will stand out for years to come is of my DH participating in the battel of the bands on 80's night. He was the drummer for Bon Jovi.
The only time I didn't have my camera. No one at home was going to believe me without proof. Oh, well, at least I saw it, he can't deny it now. LOL Where can I get one of those wigs...he looks good with the long blond curls. LOL
This trip was our best ever...can't really count WDW last year since we got married at the same time. We even started learning more about DVC, and we're on the verge of investing. We're Disney-lifers. Makes sense.
Well, thanks for letting me share. I really enjoyed reading everyone's accounts of their trips. I hope to be sharing many more in the future, and possibly meeting some of you on future trips.
