Hi everyone,

Just wanted to get some ideas on how to celebrate this milestone in DD's life. How did you celebrate your DD's or DS' first communion? Thanks so much in advance!

For both of my daughter's communions, I held a family gathering at my home after the ceremony. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
I decorated our home, I made a cake (I took a cake decorating course) and I a served a big dinner (turkey, lasagna, meatballs, salads, rice, vegetables, rolls....)
Both my girls enjoyed their special day from looking beautiful in their white dresses to sharing it with their family.
Enjoy your special day with your DD/DS(?)!

I also took both girls to get professional photos but I went the following week after the communion.

I would think that a new outfit and a family dinner afterwards would be very celebratory - a cake is a great idea! Make sure you get a photo of her with the bishop or priest as well.

We (growing up, I don't have any children) don't do too much, besides having family over. We try to stay focused on the sacrament, rather than the party. I think having a cake and family over would be lovely, myself. Taking pictures to remember the milestone is great too! :goodvibes

One great idea I found for my son's first communion was to have all the kids in our family (my 2 son's and our little cousins, nephews, nieces) all decorate their own foam crosses which they could take home after the party. The crosses were purchased for about a $1 each at a craft store and were all pre cut and had a tiny hook on the back. I purchased some foam stickers with a religious theme and the kids could just peel and stick them on instead of needing glue which was great because....glue = mess

As the kids were decorating it was interesting to see how each wanted their cross to look like. I also took some pictures as they were decorating to keep as a memory.

I also purchased a small pillow that said "my first communion" on it and had each guest sign the pillow with a fabric marker so that my son could keep.

Lot of pictures taken that day, at church with his school friends, his teacher, priest and then at home with each family around the cake.

Enjoy the celebration!

This is what we did for both my kids First Communion.

Well do it again this year for my son's Confirmation. Family will be at the church then come to our house for food and cake after. Don't forget to get a picture of the Godparents and your child if they are there to.

Most families at our school tend to do the same- cake and dinner with family afterwards back at their home.
