My DD is making her 1st communion next year. I thought about getting a dress next month after all of the ceremonies take place. Any ideas where to find a dress either online or in a store? TIA:goodvibes

I'm going to do the same thing. I'm planning on hitting up Macy's and Sears, maybe Lord and Taylor (not sure if they have any). Anyone else???

I got my dd's this year at Lord and Taylor. Got it in February and in April saw the same dress $45 cheaper at Kohls!

My MIL is a preschool teacher and goes to JC Penney after First Communion time and find dresses for next to nothing. They make great bride dresses for her little girls! Anyway, some are tacky, but quite a few were very pretty and simple, more my style.

I agree with JC Penney's.. we saw some really nice ones there last year for about $35-$40. Last week we were there, and they have them going for about $50 right now, but wait a few wks and I bet they'll come down more.

Burlington Coat Factory has a great selection of beautiful First Communion Dresses with very reasonable prices. They have veils, sweaters, shawls, and gloves. They also have quite a few styles in plus sizes.

My DD just made her first communion and the best selection was definitely at JCP and Burlington! I think 1st Communions will be done soon and I imagine the dresses will go on clearance soon. But all of the dresses never seemed to be more than $60 and were usually on sale.

We paid $15 for my daughters dress last year when she made hers. We acutally bought two because the one she really had a huge stain on it. My mother said she would see if it would come out. If it didn't we still had a backup. It was a beautiful dress for $15.00. I think it was original price at about 60-70.

Make sure your daughter has some input in the selection. My mother picked mine for me and it was ugly. Really ugly. I hated it, and was totally jealous of the beautiful dresses the other girls got to wear. But my mother loved it because she got it mega-cheap. I'm not saying your daughter should get total control, but if there is one she totally hates, pick one of the other dresses, even if it costs a bit more. It's been 25 years and I'm still a bit put out by it! :)

I agree with Burlington Coat Factory, but be careful with their return policy, it's impossible to deal with returns with them!

Nordstrom's has a nice selection of Communion dresses as well~

I'm not going to pay for DD's. I'm remaking her Christening gown (which I got for $15 at Marshall's.) It is appliqueed Battenburg lace over linen, and is really long and has a heavily gathered skirt, so there is enough fabric to do it. When Communion is over, I'll cut her a hankie from the lace to keep for her wedding. I kind of like the symbolism of having her wear versions of the same gown for all three of her major lifetime "white dress" religious events.

It's fancy enough for any little girl to love at age 7, and I'll cut the bodice in a style that she likes. (My mom did the "basic" thing with mine, too -- there was nothing special about it at all. I wore it school many times that year.)

I got DD's last year at mygirldress.com. They had beautiful dresses and they were very reasonably priced.

Check T J Maxx and Marshall's, too. I saw beautiful dresses there last week, very reasonably priced.

We found our daughter's dress at Burlington, and it was one of the few places that had the type of veil we were looking for too. Their return policy is tough, though, so we had to make sure to have her try it on before we bought it, but it was a beautiful dress at a very reasonable price.

JCP had a big sale on them a few weeks ago I got a beautiful one for 26.00 after a 15% coupon. They were not on clearance yet though. Keep checking and be sure to check on a weekday. Scope them out and you can always buy one and get the price adjusted if it goes down within a certain timeframe as well.
