First Communion? Do you bring a gift?

FYI -- A lot of us protestants don't use the King James Version either as Biblical scholars have found it to be, perhaps, the weakest translation from the original texts.

I live in a very Catholic area, and First Communion gifts are actually larger gifts - $50 - $100, depending upon the relationship. A grandparent/godparent will usually give more. If it's someone you are not close to, a $50 ($25 face value) is common.
We don't have a lot of family here, so no party (we all go out to dinner), but most parties are sit down dinners at restaurants (people here start booking in the winter for the spring, since we have 5 Catholic churches in 3 - 4 miles).

Same thing here.

Around here(LI, NY) most people give cash. My ds made his Communion last year and recieved checks mostly for $75-$100 but that was just family and my best friends.

There are nice "Children Bibles" that you can get, that would be nice, also.

Cards stores usually have gifts for First Holy Communion. My dd got a beautiful picture frame , jewelery, stuffed toys like someone said. Rosaries are big too.

Or money in a card.

Thats what you would give here for family and close friends too. My daughter was invited to so many first communion parties from her classmates that we did just 25.00 each for the parties she went to.

You can buy them children's books about their belief as a gift. I think they will like it very much.

I am 44 and remembering my communion, I received money, but some nice religious gifts.

I was a different kind of kid. I really liked the religious stuff.

My favorite thing was a Children's Bible.

Wow $10.00 in a card!

The gifts here are alot more than that, especially if I was going to the child's party and the whole family was invited.

IMOP, this kid is 7-8, in 2nd grade. U can only get so many bibles and religious things. I bought my neighbor a gift card to Dick's.

Out of the ordinary , but I'm sure appreciated. And yes we are practicing Catholics.

Typically the childs godparents each buy the child something like this- I would stay away from buying things like this if not one of the god parents- how many bibles does one child need?

Same here. My cousin, (yes I have a 8 year old 1st cousin and I am 34! lol) will be having her Communion this May. We will be giving her cash but not sure how much yet. She is having a big party at a catering hall with over 150 people! Myself, DH and our 2 kids will be going so I have to put more than what I normally would in the card. I'll probably do $150-$200.
