Hi -

I've been having some neck/shoulder pain for the past few months and finally decided to see a chiropractor about it. I met with him yesterday for a consultation and x-rays and had my first adjustment this evening.

All night, I've had a nagging headache. Not quite a normal headache, not quite a migraine. I took a few ibuprofen but haven't had any relief.

I was just wondering if this can be directly related to the adjustment I had. I've never had one before, and don't know if there are any "side effects".

The hypochondriac in me googled "headaches after chiropractic adjustments" but had to stop reading after coming across some anti-chiropractic horror stories.:scared1:

I'll probably just head off to be shortly - of course if I still wake up with the headache, I'll call his office just to ease my mind.

Anybody else have this type of experience?:confused3

A few years back I went to see a chiropractor because I was having horrible headaches (not the nagging headache you are talking about, but wanting to rip your head off it hurts so bad kind of headaches).

The same thing happened to me, after the first couple of adjustments I would have what I called a nagging headache. The chiropractor talked me into sticking it out for a few more adjustments, and I have to admit, it was the best thing I ever did. After a few months of treatments, my major headaches went away (and this was after years of dealing with them and trying every medicine).

Funny thing is, after a little over a year of going, I started getting those nagging headaches after my adjustment again. After a few months of it, I decided to stop going to the chiropractor, and the headaches stopped. And the major headaches I used to have before I went to the chiropractor have not come back.

I think that you will be just fine. Your muscles were most likely tight. The doc shifted things back where they are supposed to go. Gonna take some time for your muscles to figure that out.

Did you get your neck adjusted? That gives me a headache sometimes. Give it the night and then check back in to the Dr's office in the morning. They will be able to tell you better what's going on.

IMHO

Thanks - your post makes me feel better :) I'm glad to hear you got relief from your major headaches.

It's funny - I've always suffered from the occasional migraine. Horrific when it is happening, but not occuring frequently enough for me to have it checked on. During the consultation with the chiropracter, he told me not to be surprised if I notice a decrease in the migraines once I start the chiropractic route for my neck/shoulder problems.

I think the ibuprofen might be kicking in a little bit - I do feel a little beaten up in the areas he worked on, but I was told that might happen for the first few adjustments.

Yep, I did get my neck adjusted.

The ibuprofen is kicking in, but I'll still give the office a call in the morning.

Now comes the hard part - trying not to sleep on my stomach with my arm under my head/pillow ;)
