We had problems at POR, too. They weren’t that level of bad, but I will never stay there again when there are so many other choices.

FWIW the cleanest rooms I’ve experienced at Disney were at Pop. It really doesn’t matter what level it is.

Over our 30+ trips we have had 4 rooms that we ended getting a different room, 2 deluxe, 1 Mod and 1 value. The mousekeepers are assigned usually weekly, so the one that "cleaned" that room may be at GF next week.

For us, we stayed at the dolphin once and that was more than enough. When we arrived, we pulled up to the main entrance. The valet manager was directing traffic, and almost had multiple cars hit ours. When we asked him why he was directing other cars in front of us and having them almost hit us, he was incredibly rude and talked to my own mother with the most disrespectful tone of voice. Another member of the valet staff approached us, and when we tried to unload our bags before going to self parking, the manager returned over to us and yelled that we can not park there, and that we must go to self parking and walk our bags from there. We had absolutely no clue where the self parking lot even was, and the other man told us that it was in a whole other entrance. I could tell he felt bad about how we were treated, as he seemed scared to try to help us when the manager himself was screaming at us. Following that encounter, we drove over to self parking, lugged our bags all the way from there, then proceeded to check in. Needless to say we were incredibly unhappy. When we asked to speak to the manager, he came over and proceeded to say "The valet manager came over and already told me what happened" and then decided to defend the actions. It was absolutely absurd how we were treated. The front desk manager was as incompetent as the valet manager and gave us attitude as well. It takes a lot for me to complain about anything ( I try to see the positive in every scenario), but this was the worst customer service I had ever encountered. Luckily, the man checking us in was very kind. He could tell we were incredibly aggravated, and gave us an upgrade to a balcony room. That was a nice gesture, but unfortunately the hallways on the 2nd floor smelled absolutely terrible. The room itself was fine, but the hallways were incredibly unpleasant. Like yourself, our stay had us LONGING for the yacht club next door. The Dolphin ended up reaching out and offered us a complementary night, which we will be using at the Swan before we move over to YC. Hopefully our experience there will be much better, but I plan to never step foot in the Dolphin again after that.

This whole thread has gotten so accusatory.

Everyone has different experiences. Just because several people have had great experiences that does not negate the OP’s experience. And breaking down his experiences and pointing out where he is wrong for handling the situation in the manner he did is just not helpful.
Also, not everyone has the same level of knowledge about how things work in each hotel. In addition, just because something is supposed to be a certain way according to the unwritten or written rules, does not mean it does not happen differently then the way it is supposed to. For example we have stayed at POR many times and loved it! We also had several people greeting us at the entryway. There was the person in that side area ( can’t remember if that is bell services or not) poking his head out and waving. There was a greeter with the big Mickey hands and there was the older gentleman who has been there for years handing out stickers. (Love him). Were they official door greeters to check you in like the deluxe have, no but there were at least people there to ask questions. Coincidentally I have checked into Bay lake tower previously and there were no greeters whatsoever.

You do not have to agree with someone’s experiences but trying to prove they are wrong for having them is just not necessary. (Unless they are aggressive or cross the line).

That stinks. Our terrible service story at WDW was at Boardwalk. Every CM we encountered was surly and unpleasant. The valets were straight up rude. I watched them berate several families while waiting for DH. They gave us a room with a soaking wet carpet and refused to move us (DVC stay so not much wiggle room). Luckily we didn't have to deal with any of them once we got settled in as we are a self-sufficient people, but if we ever stay there again I know to adjust my expectations and avoid interacting with valet and desk CM's as much as possible.

Aww man... I have only stayed at POFQ, and I wanted to try Port Orleans Riverside. I've walked over there and enjoyed their restaurant and the ambiance, but haven't had a chance to stay. I really hope your stay was not a reflection of their usual standards.

It isn't. I have stayed at POR multiple times and not had housekeeping issues. But it does suck when it happens to you.

But yeah, I agree, the OP was given a room not ready because they wanted a room right away. Sounds like they were shooing the OP away and hoping they wouldn't notice the state of the room. Which is not right to do, but as someone who works retail and has on occasion had a customer screaming at them, sometimes you do whatever you can to make that person go away.

The only thing I find weird is that OP was so outraged at the checkin process but on the flip side got a room with poop on the wall and tried to clean it up? I would NEVER touch any fluid on the wall or other people hair in the tub. That is where the outrage should be placed. The room was not ready before 3.. no big deal heck i have had rooms not ready till almost 5 (got checked in and out in the pc on accedent). All op had to do was leave bags with bag check and take the boat to disney springs and when they got back there room would be set and get the bags and go to sleep. idk just seems odd to me.

I have to question why someone with multiple Disney stays:

A--Didn't know that your room doesn't automatically unlock at 3 pm on the dot. Check in starts then, not everyone gets their room then.
B--Didn't know enough about the resort they booked to know that there are parking lots by the rooms. But boy, I do miss the days when Disney used to shuttle you to your room in a golf cart.
C--Didn't know that when you have a problem calling takes a while, and going to the desk is the quickest way to get things taken care of.

Was that experience recent? Marriott acquired Starwood about three years ago. If you were there longer ago than that, things could be very different now. If it was more recently than that, you might want to rethink...

I’ll go out on a limb and say it’s not normal standards. Mistakes happen. We stay Hilton everywhere but Disney. Most of the time everything is perfect, but there have been a few not so perfect. We do not let the couple bad times determine our opinion of the other 100’s of positives. Nobody, business, or anything I know of is perfect. When the human element is involved something will go wrong.

It can be helpful when it is written in a helpful rather than an accusatory tone. There were many posts which were sympathetic and also offered helpful information. And then there were others, like you, who felt the need to take that accusatory rather than helpful tone. Do accusations pointing out someone’s faults count as helpful information?

I feel the people not being helpfull are lacking faith int he story. I would happen to fall into that bracket. It just dosnt all make sense.

As was stated previously: everyones experience is different. We will be staying at the BWV in September after staying there in February. Could not have had better customer service with EVERY CM that we encountered helpful, pleasant and welcoming. You will love it !! (not to mention the lovely walk to EPCOT and the Studios)

Wow. This can happen anywhere though. We’ve stayed at all levels and honestly our only horrible room story was at the Polynesian. Air conditioner broke, hair clog in the shower, sliding door to bathroom broke so it didn’t slide. Had to move after we carried 10 days worth of stuff up from the car and started unpacking. Still my favorite resort though

Yes. I agree. I understand how first impressions can affect your feelings for a resort. But we’ve had some of our worst check in experiences and/or rooms on our first visit at what are now favourite resorts. Sometimes you just need to move past it.

The only time we’ve entered a room and asked to be moved was the mansions at POR, and it was purely because of the lack of cleanliness. Black scuff marks on the comforters, dirty bathroom and a massive Vans sticker stuck to the AC control amongst other things. Definitely seems like mousekeeping struggles at such a large resort. And with most people skipping housekeeping rooms may go many days without being cleaned which makes it harder to clean on the last day. That being said we absolutely love the grounds and the boat to DS and don’t hesitate to stay there.

Even though the TP on the floor was tiny, it just goes to show the floor wasnt even swept or mopped. The hair is disgusting. The faucet handle unacceptable ( takes 2 seconds to spray and wipe). Etc...etc...etc....

Im glad the majority of your trip was spent elsewhere and you at least got some FPs.

Nope. Not lacking faith. I believe everything the OP reported happened to them. My habit of clarifying, especially for (as I stated more than once) the benefit of future resort visitors, newer posters who come across this thread, and particularly new potential POR visitors reading this thread) does not and should not be considered a lack of faith.
