It’s unfortunate that you knew so little about the room and resort you booked. Your girls knew *about* the RR, so I don’t know how the headboard info was overlooked. It’s been there since the beginning of the rooms. It’s one of the biggest draws of the room.

I'm sitting in our vehicle wondering where everyone is. No greeter, no bell services, nothing.

Right. Moderate resort. Not deluxe. A motel where you park near the room. Bell Services does exist of course, but often it’s not necessary depending on where your room is.

I call guest services, they get the front desk on the phone and the lady tells me that our room will not be ready till 3:00.

You weren’t talking to the front desk. If they can transfer you to someone, it’s just a call center employee offsite. Same when you hit the “front desk” button from the room. Even at a deluxe. FYI.

did complain about the poop.

In person at the actual front desk?

When I told the CM at Bell Services we were sent outside he got my information and checked us in.

So you went on, said you were checking in and needed bag help. You went outside to the bell services person...before checking in? Did the bell services person know you hadn’t actually checked in? Sounds like you left the front desk before finishing the check in business. Bell doesn’t check people in. That’s why your room wasn’t ready.

I have no idea how anyone assigned any room since it doesn’t sound like you ever actually checked in.

It sounds like you had some deluxe expectations for a moderate resort, OP. Obviously the dirty room was not your fault. However, it is beyond my comprehension why anyone would hang out in a dirty room making phone calls, when you could have just gone down to the lobby and had the entire experience resolved in your favor in probably less than 15 minutes. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Poop on the walls would’ve had me down in the lobby faster than you could say Mickey Mouse. 🤢

Port Orleans Riverside.
I'm sitting in our vehicle wondering where everyone is. No greeter, no bell services, nothing. So I get out and go inside and make my way over to registration. I wait in line and when it's my turn I tell the CM I'm checking in and I have a car full of bags and have no idea where to take them.

For the record, I have never stayed here so I did not know we parked in front of our building. Anyway, she snaps at me telling me I can only park there for 30 minutes and I need to go outside to baggage and they will help me. When I go out I see baggage and a man tells me I have to go back inside. I look and my wife has moved. I go to her and they told her she can't park there (less than 3 minutes) so I go back inside and

go to Bell Services and explain that I have never stayed here, where do I check in etc. He is so helpful and checks us in and draws a map to our room. We get to our room at 2:48. I noted the time because our room "Not Ready" text came in on our way to the room. So we arrive and our magic bands will NOT open the door. I call guest services, they get the front desk on the phone and the lady tells me that our room will not be ready till 3:00. It's now 2:59

I did call back and asked to be moved to the Yacht Club but there was no availability.

When I told the CM at Bell Services we were sent outside he got my information and checked us in. He drew directions on the map and gave us our room number.

Completely agree that the room you got was totally unacceptable and if were me I would have refused the room.

But the parts that I bolded just don't make any sense especially since I don't think any Bell Services at Disney hotels has any ability to check you in to a room. They would only have access to your room number for delivery of luggage but that doesn't mean the room was ready for you. They probably figured you were already checked in after you went inside and they told you how to get to your room.

Agree maybe the Registration Desk may have been a bit gruff but if you were in there asking about your luggage, it's possible she wasn't sure how you arrived and was telling you bell services needed to get it as if you arrived by bus, taxi etc ... could be she was believed your luggage was sitting outside so that would be your first priority then you could come back and check in. Your MagicBands likely didn't work because your room wasn't ready and you would have been told that had you done the check in process ... not just have Bell Services look up your room number.

Like we talk about here all the time, calling in only gets you to a call center and rarely would any issue at a resort be resolved that way. You needed to go to the front desk, tell them your issues and asked to be moved. Ask them to look for a room at Yacht Club or have them call over there to find out. Nothing happens with a phone call.

Again to other readers here DO NOT CALL to resolve issues, you must go do it in person ... and if you didn't get a room number texted to you then you must go to the Registration Desk to properly get your room or to change a room or get a problem at resort resolved.

I think this was the biggest mistake. The original room wasn’t ready but Bell Services told the OP what their room number was. If that didn’t happen, the OP would have most likely got their original room that wouldn’t have had these problems.

I get the sense they gave the OP a room that was out of service, so to speak, because the OP demanded a new room when he found out his room wasn’t ready.

One of the issues I had at POR was a fridge that reeked of mildew. I CALLED using the FRONT DESK button on my room phone and they took care of it.

Never had any issues at POR or any Disney resort. ( we almost always stay at POP, Music or POR/POFQ) I always bring wipes and clean anything we touch..more to me being a germaphobe..lol but, all in all. Disney resorts have always been perfect for us. I just do a quick bed big check like any other place and worry no more. IMHO Disney resorts always get an A+ for cleanliness. No complaints here at all.
I dont look for things to complain about because i dont feel we need to. The rooms have always been great.

This has been our experience also. Over the course of our many trips to WDW, we have had a number of issues, mostly minor (light switches not working, TV problems, AC issues) but two major (complete power outage, shower not working), and all were resolved quickly using the front desk button on the phone. In fact, for the shower problem, a maintenance worker came to our door in under 10 minutes - probably less time than it would have taken us to get back to our room from the front desk. It is not necessary to drag yourself to the front desk to resolve every issue. It's helpful to understand how Disney handles matters, but if their processes never worked, I'm sure they would have changed them by now.

That said, you will almost always get more immediate attention if you show up in person to present your problem. If nothing else, it creates a sense of urgency and allows for better communication than going through a third party on the phone.

You weren’t actually talking to the front desk, though. You were talking to a call center.

Poop on the wall warrants a complaint for sure.

Glad you’ve had good experiences, but that isn’t the case for everyone.

No way was I walking the very long walk at 11pm. Our check in was not a good experience there.

Aww man... I have only stayed at POFQ, and I wanted to try Port Orleans Riverside. I've walked over there and enjoyed their restaurant and the ambiance, but haven't had a chance to stay. I really hope your stay was not a reflection of their usual standards. :(

Bryanb, my family has stayed at POR several times and have not experienced any of what the OP stated. I"m sure they did have some problems, especially if you are counting on a greeter at the entrance. Those don't come with a moderate, usually. POFQ does have a man who greets guests, but that's the only one I know of.
About POR. I hope you give it a try. I think you can run into all those problems at any resort, rather they be deluxe or value. It's a shame that happened to the OP, but like I said, we have stayed there a lot with no problems. It is our favorite resort and has been our home resort for years. We moved to POFQ due to mobility issues, but we really miss POR!
So, I hope you will give it a try. If you read about ANY resort on property, you will find complaints of one kind or another.

Sounds good! I'm glad you've had great experiences there. I guess when Disney is serving millions of guests per year in these massive hotel properties, they will occasionally miss the mark. Hopefully, it doesn't happen always. I like the fact that the general manager of each resort actually puts their email address the welcome letter inside each room, and actually answers. Hopefully OP made them aware too.

These boards will have you expecting the worst everywhere at WDW. You know that!

Ok. Sorry. I guess I didn’t understand the point.

I’m sure there are issues that can be resolved by calling the call center. But poop on the wall? I think that warrants marching to the front desk and talking to a manager.
Poop on the wall. Pink Floyd feel to it.

Wow. This can happen anywhere though. We’ve stayed at all levels and honestly our only horrible room story was at the Polynesian. Air conditioner broke, hair clog in the shower, sliding door to bathroom broke so it didn’t slide. Had to move after we carried 10 days worth of stuff up from the car and started unpacking. Still my favorite resort though

I pull up and it's a virtual ghost town. I'm sitting in our vehicle wondering where everyone is. No greeter, no bell services, nothing
As you discovered, Moderate resorts don't have Greeters. All the Bell Services CMs could have coincidentally been tied up with other guests.
For the record, I have never stayed here so I did not know we parked in front of our building.
you didn't do any research? Look at a map?
look and my wife has moved. I go to her and they told her she can't park there (less than 3 minutes)
Were you stopped directly in front of the entrance, or in an actual parking space? If the latter, I'm surprised the vehicle has to be moved.
so I go back inside and go to Bell Services and explain that I have never stayed here, where do I check in etc. He is so helpful and checks us in and draws a map to our room.
Inside? Isn't Bell Services outside? How was the CM able to check you in?
Then my phone rings and it's POR reservations and she tells me the room isn't ready again. I tell her it looks fine and she says we can't go in yet because there is a knob missing on one of the dresser drawers!
Did you tell that person you were already inside the room? Also, just for the record, check in starts at 3. I'm relatively certain that while any hotel anywhere strives for that deadline, nobody anywhere promises 3 PM on the dot. Although frankly, that's a ridiculous reason to delay room access.
Anyway, upon entering the room, it was small!
a
But the exact same size as every other room at POR, POFQ, and CS. CBR rooms are slightly larger 340 sq.ft. be vs 4 sq.ft.
I get the sense they gave the OP a room that was out of service, so to speak, because the OP demanded a new room when he found out his room wasn’t ready
Yep, that has to be what happened :thumbsup2
