We were at HS when my brother(45) was feeling terrible stomach pains. I went to guest relations to ask where the nearest hospital or urgent care were located. They were looking it up and then suggested to go right next door to first aid. I questioned why we should go there (didn't want any medicine). They told me that they have a registered nurse on hand and can give him a look. I had no idea. So we went in and got in right away to see the nurse. She was so nice and helpful but my brother said he didn't feel the pain he was having like anything before.. She gave us a list of urgent care centers and directions and even said that Disney would even drive us there free of charge.. I had rental car and was very familiar with driving around the disney area. ..so we declined. I just wanted to post this as we never knew of all the services Disney offered in cases like ours.. (p.s. it was gal bladder related)

Yes, Disney is pretty awesome that way.

Sorry to hear about your brother, hope he is feeling better!

We had a similar situation with my dad at HS back in 2013. After seeing the nurse at the first aid center, she gave us a map to a few urgent care centers in the area (we had our own car too). I remember after taking him to the doctor he mentioned how impressed he was with the care he received at both the park and urgent care center. Hope your brother is doing well!

Yep, they have always had registered nurses there. From what I've read it's one of the few things that Walt Disney insisted on in the parks that has actually been kept.

My son was one of the last kids injured by the pre-padding Mater ride at California Adventure. Everyone was VERY concerned he had actually broken a bone of his cheek, and they checked him out very thoroughly (all while doing the absolutely essential gentle questioning of me and DH to make sure *we* hadn't done it). Once they were satisfied on both counts they made sure to note that he had hit his face on the hard side of the vehicle, ad I'm sure it was added to the growing list of kids who had been slammed into the side during the turns. And they added padding just about 2 months later.

And one time DS ended up really woozy feeling, and they had us go back into the depths of first aid so he could lie down. It was like a hospital ward back there, with places to lie down and curtains around each area, etc. On our way out Mickey and Minnie were walking through the hallway.

On a side note, if you need any over the counter medicine ... ask at a merchandise check out. They will direct you to a check out that has it. They keep it in boxes under the counter and have huge selections of individual doses. I have done it often.

Those cost thought. You can get them totally for free at first aid. ;) I'll pay if I need it immediately though.

We used the first aid station in the MK once. Not for anything medical but needed a needle and thread to sew a pants button back on so a family member could keep their pants on. Happily they were ready and had everything we needed. :thumbsup2

Also if your at your resort the front desk can provide you with things like over the counter meds, like antacids. Family member got sick and needed some in the middle of the night when the resort store was closed. The front desk keeps things like that available if you need it.

That is true but the couple dollars are worth it to me to not travel to First Aid if I'm not close. I remember being in Fantasyland and had forgotten advil and wasn't going to drag the family around and in AK getting bit by spider was not going to travel when for a few dollars I could quickly take the benedryl.

I have taken DS to First Aid and was offered liquid pain reliever which was great.

Yup, Disney is awesome if you aren't feeling well. Last summer, first day in the parks, I got dehydrated, and in trying to correct my issue, drank too much water and threw my electrolyte balance off. Wound up so dizzy I couldn't stand up and walk. My mother got a CM, and in like 5 minutes, there was an ambulance there to pick me up and take me to Celebration Hospital. Care was awesome, and no charge for the ambulance ride, or the care they gave during the ride. This is certainly one thing that Disney absolutely knows how to do right!

I have read this before. Glad that you had a nice experience in such a situation. Sorry to hear about your brother. If he can get the gall bladder yanked, he will feel a lot better. However, he won't look at fatty foods the same ever again. DH had his out before he was 30. None of his brothers, sister, or parents have theirs anymore either. Bad genes. I hope he gets to feeling better soon.

Yep. I am very familiar with DHS/Reedy Creek first aid and EMT. Though they never gave me a list of places to go, they just said the preferred hospital for Disney is the Florida Hospital in Celebration.

Yes, all the first aids have a nurse. We learned this first hand when my mom ended up having kidney failure at the MK due to a new medication she started taking right before the trip. They took great care of her, called EMS right away, and she was at an area hospital very quickly. They also gave my husband and kids a voucher for free ice cream at the ice cream parlor on Main Street.

I agree they are brilliant- my (then pregnant) DD collapsed in DHS - she knew she began to feel dizzy as we were queuing and sheltering from a storm - I asked a passing CM where the nearest seating was as she was feeling a little unwell - he said not nearby and rushed off and returned very quickly with a wheelchair just as she passed out - medics arrived within minutes but not before a wonderful holidaying doctor leapt over two barriers to our aid! She was well taken care of and after being checked out we returned to our resort so she could rest.
