I'll be driving down for the first time for MLKing weekend. I figure I'll roll in about Noon but after 7 hours of driving. Given its a Friday night I'll be offsite for (hopefully) two days.

What would you do given I'll be a little tired (driving alone) but with most of the day ahead of me? I do have to buy a ticket.

you are talking about January - I would go ahead and buy an annual pass with the new DVC discount. then go to the parks.

if you aren't planning on buying the annual pass - then I go over to DD/PI.

If it was me, I would find a nice lounge chair by the pool where you are staying and relax in the warm Florida sun for the afternoon. Of course it will be January and it might not be too warm or too sunny. But unwinding from the drive would be important. That would get me rested for the evening.

Have fun.

I agree with heading to the parks and Downtown Disney would be my second choice!

You can also walk around the Boardwalk, and poke into the Swan and Dolphin. A bit of shopping, a bit of eating--what's not to like?

At the moment I planned on getting the 10 day pass with everything. Given the per day cost is so low on it it does seem the logical thing to do is to go on into the parks...but then that's a waste of the hopping option. One of the water parks would be a good idea but only if its warm.

Pool lounging might be the best way to go followed by DQ...but...I'm starting to get a little concerned that the 10-day pass won't be offered easily to US residents. The only place I've seen it referenced is mousesavers. Everyone else shows a maximum of 7 days. If I can't advance purchase it I may as well go with the PAP.

You might consider that the pass gives you the option of doing whatever you want, whenever you want. If you run around trying to find the best way to maximize its value, then the pass is in charge. Put yourself in charge instead, and do whatever you feel would be the most fun.

True... I guess I should also recognize that I absoltively planned to buy a PAP until they came out with Magic Your Way. The MYW altered the breakeven landscape quite a bit. I could easily spend 8 days in the parks and 5 nights at PI/DQ and the waterparks over a year but 11 days and 6 nights seems a bit more than I'd want to do.

After a long seven hour drive, I would use my DVC discount at SSR Spa for a relaxing massage!

Now that I'm staying on site that settles the question of what to do...although I do need to decide PAP vs AP. Someone reminded me of the $49 AP discount at the Value resorts. As a mere 150 point DVC'er being able to find some place inexpensive for the weekend is paramount.

Which makes me wonder if the AP discount is a way to encourage people like me to buy more. It's hard to justify an AP on the number of days you can stay with 150 points.
