Hi - I’m going to be there for a couple of solo days before meeting my sister and niece - big splurge trip, as I’m missing a big award/honor thing due to the Rona. I’m doing two of the merriest after hrs things, one solo and one with my sister/niece - I really want to see the full new fireworks before after hours starts, but the crowding in the hub/on main st is a big no for me. I’m vaxxed, but I’m supposed to see my older parents the following week.

Which brings me to my question - has anyone done one of the MK dessert parties solo? Is it totally awkward? Do solo-ers get treated like second class citizens?

many thanks!!

There is no word on when and if these are coming back yet. But, as a solo traveler, I would say that the hardest part about the parties is actually getting a reservation. Their system does not really allow for a solo person. Most of the time, you have to book for 2 people, and then call and have them take one off, which is a hassle since it is prepaid. But I have never felt awkward nor has any Disney cast member ever treated me with anything other then kindness. Not once have I felt like a "second class citizen" by any cast member. The only issue is the programming of the reservation system that affects singles. But their reservation system is just messed up anyway, especially for the parties. They have certain tables that hold a set amount, so they only book that way. For example, if there is only tables left that hold 6 people, the system won't allow a group of 4 to book it. I have spoken to cast member and the system is set up that they would rather not sell those tables, then put less people in them. But that is not the cast member's fault.

Oooo all the parties are back! I wouldn't hesitate to go alone, I've seen others alone and everyone is so busy watching or eating they won't even notice. I don't think they will sit you with anyone given the climate now but I have been to events where they did in the past. Might want to ask them that.

So, right - these are back, announced this morning:). Yay! I ran the idea by my sister, and they want to do this as well, so I’ll get to do one as long as it’s happening on the same night and all that. But if not, I’ll definitely plan to do one solo. I really appreciate your responses, thank you! I haven’t done much solo at WDW, but I’ve always felt perfectly comfortable on my own there, and I know that I don’t bat an eye about people enjoying WDW on their own (in fact, I’ve been pretty envious once or twice).

I’ve been to three dessert parties solo, including the one MK. I personally never had trouble booking, but I did book early in all three cases. The only hard part about being solo is not being comfortable leaving my belongings at the table when I went to get more food. I finally learned to have a way to take just a small bag of the true valuables with me, but leaving the larger bag, typically holding th8ngs like extra clothes or water bottles, at the table. It’s also hard if you want to leave a plate with food not yet finished to go it more as it might cleared away while you are up.

The MK one is the one I got the most glances/questions about being solo, but not in an annoying way. I might do it again in the future, depending on cost and how I feel about the cost. You are definitely paying for the right to be in a smaller crowd, but it’s not a tiny crowd, either. Some of the treats are yummy, some are just okay. Don’t finish the stuff that is just meh. Eat the stuff you really like and leave the average behind. And definitely save room to eat a lot!

Yes, I've gone to several dessert parties solo. The offerings have always been enjoyable and I've always been treated well by the CM's (same as with table service dining). The buffet offerings have been very good. One party at HS has both savory and sweet items plus mixed drinks.

The MK dessert party with pre-assigned seating was one of my favorites. Both times I've attended they assigned me my own front row table. For fireworks watching, most guests stood up along the railing so be prepared to do so. It's a nice view and much better than having to be in the hub crowd IMO.

Other dessert parties, at EPCOT and HS, were more awkward in terms of table space since it was first come, first grabbed so to speak. When you have nobody else with you to save a table it can be a pain to have to find a spot. In those cases, I had to share a table with other guests or find a location to sit. If you can find some friendly guests willing to share a spot and don't mind being social, the parties can be nice.

Headed for a solo birthday trip in mid October and have booked the Ferrytale Cruise and the After Party as well. I figured that i'll have a great time no matter what. Hope you enjoy your solo time.

That sounds fantastic!! I booked two of the parties. Might as well have the full experience twice! Have a blast:).

I've gone to a dessert party solo, and although Disney didn't treat me like a second class citizen (they gave me an excellent little table), a few other guests did. They put things on my table, tried to squeeze me out, as if I wasn't even there. But as I said, a FEW other guests did, for the most part, it was fine. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

That is crazy. I read all of these types of experienced solo travelers have and am a bit surprised by them. I must give off a "don't mess with me" vibe because none of this stuff has ever happened to me. It's really sad that people treat others this way.

Other people can be a bit clueless sometimes :(. I like to think (hope?) it’s excitement…. Thank you for telling me this happened. The crowding would not delight me! The whole reason I’m splurging on these is to avoid people in the hub. I’m an extremely avid scuba diver and am taking all the steps and then some to protect my lungswhile still living my life, ya know? This gives me something to think about in terms of how to address a scenario like this if it happens. My standard covid-y way to get a bit of extra space has always been to turn it around on myself, say something like, “Hey, I’m sort of paranoid, I would so appreciate if you wouldn’t mind making sure I have a lil’ perimeter for my paranoia!” It’s worked so far, everywhere. Maybe not something I should have to do, but whatever works. I know this isn’t really the situation you’re describing, though. Kinda makes me want to bring a big ol’ backpack and smack it in the middle of my table, but extra plates and wine glasses may have to do;).

Would it help to say you have guests arriving they are delayed due to traffic or Disney transport.. and place napkins with silverware…in their spot.
