Fireworks is now only 5 minutes!

I disagree.
There are those who were there before DL was. Some houses were there before DL was built, so it doesn't matter if people "should know there are fireworks" because those houses were there before Disneyland was a thing, it's also the respectful thing to do. This isn't WDW, WDW can do whatever they want with fireworks without having to worry about disrupting neighbors.

Disney paid for sound proofing for those early buyers (heck, the Orange Groves didn't care in the 1950's) as part of a deal to offer nightly fireworks in the 1960's

If you look at DCA, they built a sound tunnel on segments of California Screamin' to keep the neighbors happy. (Also those gross Sound Shields (some thought they were Vomit Guards) on Maliboomer). Tower of Terror was designed so the "windows" opened into the main part of the park.

Also, nearby Knott's has a Sound Tunnel on its woodie coaster, Ghostrider.

I am very aware of all this.
But that still doesn't take away the fact that Disneyland has and will continue to respect those who live around there by not having their fireworks go off everyday all year long.

Something must have gone wrong...the show was a good 15 min long on Saturday night. I can hear them from my house and they went for a long time.

5 min means something happened... technical issues or winds picked up unexpectedly.

The youtube videos put Fantasy in the Sky around 4 1/2 minutes. No idea why it seemed longer Saturday night.

I hear that one of the reasons to bring this show back is so they can adjust the launching area for Star Wars Land

You can also hear the fireworks from the hotels, so I appreciate Disneyland doing them earlier in the evening. We’ve been woken up by them before when staying at nearby hotels like HOJO and Desert Inn. I agree that Disneyland has been there longer than most homes and owners (there wasn’t much around when it opened) and it’s probably more out of courtesy and respect that they do them early and not every night. Good for them, I wish everyone respected their neighbors. I feel kind of bad for the neighbors who can hear them nightly during Christmas and summer.

Not if your trip is in the off-season. I expect to have the same fireworks as anyone else during the year. At WDW, they dont' give you the leftovers just because it's Ocotober or Feb. DL should certainly follow suit. Especially, as mom3rtk said, when there's no Fantasmic. AND no PtN.
This. Exactly this. :guilty:

I think they should have stepped it up and gone to a longer/better show to make up for Fantasmic not showing.

I'm usually a follower of all things WDW but just booked our 1st visit for next September to DL, what's the deal with fantasmic at the moment?

Part of Star Wars Land land construction requires re-routing the river where fantasmic is shown, so it's dark right now. I think I've seen next Summer as the projected opening date so I think it will be showing (and newly refreshed) when you go next September.

I think that expecting they same thing in the park year round is a tad bit unreasonable. For instance right now in the park they have the Halloween overlays that they don't have during the rest of the year! During which if you go to the Halloween Party they show a completely different (and totally awesome) fireworks show (Halloween/Nightmare before Xmas related of course), a Halloween Parade, Cadaver Dans, and trick or treating.. This is all going on right now!

But seriously the Halloween Party is probably the reason why the "normal" fireworks show is pretty lame at the moment.

Are you sure you weren't thinking of Sunday or Friday night? Cause Friday/Sunday nights in September and October are Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party nights which have a full length Halloween themed fireworks show!
