Well being that I didn't see any responses that they actually sent you, I can't comment on what you say they said. Other people would like them to not ban short keys, but struggling with a mild case of it myself and having a brother and mother who struggle with a pretty difficult form of dyslexia, we've all had to learn that we can't use our struggles to get things they way we want them. Short keys may be easier in terms of typing something in, but it doesn't make it easier with learning how to actually work with the disability. Still I can see and understand the frustration, but I'm sure you understand that they have their reasons as well.
As far as color blindness is concerned, admittedly I don't struggle with that but I'm sure it is very frustrating for you. I did read up about it since you first responded just to see what you go through...but honestly I didn't see anything that said 1/3 of the male population struggle with it. That's one out of every three people....basically an epidemic. Everything that I've read shows less than 10%, and most are under 5% (all depending on the type of color blindness)...though still higher than the female population. So it's very much in the minority. I bring this up because VMK does have a valid point in talking about catering to such a small portion of the players. I'm not sure what you're wanting regarding color marking though....unless you want an all out no-color game, unfortunately the reality is that people who struggle with color blindness will come across difficulty in areas that involve certain or all colors. And trust me, I know what it's like to contact a company regarding something when I've been in that "small portion of people"...I recently contacted a company regarding their television adverstisements being somewhat flippant about a subject that is quite sore for people who struggle with a particular disease. I prefer not to get into specifics, but I just wanted to bring it up because while I don't struggle with color blindness, I do struggle with something else that is in the 10% and lower category so I know how it can feel to be the "odd one out" sometimes.
And I do know that VMK can be even more frustrating when trying to contact...like I said, I can't comment on what you say they said...but many of us know from past experience that VMK isn't always the most helpful. Frustrating? Most definitely. But does it make them hateful? I wouldn't say that. Hate is a pretty strong word. I would say that perhaps the game doesn't cater to them...but neither do a lot of things in this world. Doesn't make them hateful. I do hope you enjoy VMK in spite of your struggles, though!
I have learned to get around my dislexia pretty well. But I am really talking about a series of RANDOM digits - next to impossible for a dislexic, no matter how proficient in defeating the disorder, to copy by hand, and then RETYPE by hand.
As for color blindness, yes, it is only 10% of the population. If you consider that only 30% of the population is male and colorblindness only very rarely strikes females, my figure is exactly what you saw. 30% of the male population (including every male member of my family - every boy going back at least 2 generations, covering every cousin, nephew, uncle whatever that I know of, and my family is rather large) - and when I say color marking, I am talking about an article of clothing that just say "shirt" and there are 15 different colors, some of the differences are so subtle I take snaps of them and show them to others and have them tell me what color it is.
also, if you did research colorblindness, you will find that it does NOT mean I do not see colors. I most certainly do. BUT I cannot tell the difference between alot of different colors or shades of color. Dark green, dark blue, black, dark purple all look the same to me. Same goes for light orange, yellow... pink, light purple and tan - cyan light blue and light green.. silver and grey, and even white all look the same depending on the shading.... And also, epidemic? It isnt a disease, it isnt curable, you dont contract it from someone. I suggest a little more research may be nessecary on your part. It is a GENETIC DISORDER - it is passed down from your parents just like the color of your hair, or whether you will have big ears or a pointy nose. It is no more an epidemic than blondeness is an epidemic.
you know those tests they give you in school where you pick the number out of the circle with multicolor dots? I can get maybe 4 out of 10 - all I have asked VMK is to point out which color is which, not to strip all color from the world. (and yes, I do forgive you for making such an ignorant comment)
and as far as "catering to a small perecrnt" - 10% is a small percentage? How many people are in wheelchairs? So you are saying that it is ridiculous to put ramps in for those people?
and I used the word "hate" because of the WAY it was just blown off towards me and the lack of recognition and ignorance for the two handicaps. Dislexia, especially, gets ignored. My parents actually had to file a lawsuit against my high school because of their callousness towards my disability. (funny, in spite of all that, I had the 2nd highest SAT score in my school and would have taken Salutatorian if it wasnt for English class and my dislexia). Hate is always a product of ignorance and VMK, in regards to these two topics, has shown me NOTHING but ignorance and hatred.
Oh, and dislexia has, in alot of ways, given me a leg up on other - because of my struggles, I am now able to read jumbled up woirds, I can read upside down and backwards, I even can read words in a mirror as well. My brain now auto corrects and translates it. But that does not work with random bits of number and letter jumbles.
