Fireworks from Poly Beach-Sound Issues

For years now I’ve heard that fireworks from the Poly beach were great for viewing outside the park. So last night we decided to give it a try. And the view was great!

However, the audio was terrible. I expected it to maybe not be loud enough or something but what I did not expect was for it to intermittently cut out every 2-3 seconds. So much so that it would have been better with no sound at all! Has anyone experienced this in the past or did we have an “off” night?

I have stated literally for years on this board that the audio from the MK fireworks on the Poly beach is virtually non-existent.

(OTOH, the best outside-MK viewing audio is at TTC.)

I’ve seen those warnings and just couldn’t imagine it would be THAT bad! Will definitely try TTC next time we need an outside viewing spot. Do they dim the overhead lights at TTC during the show? I’m guessing probably not.

Yep. The absolute best place is the TTC. I don't understand why people keep recommending the beach at the Poly. The audio has been awful there for years.

The lights are not a problem in the primary "viewing area" of TTC.

If you watch from the railing on the dock, the lights are behind you. The ferry continues to operate during fireworks, so people will come and go, and the lights need to be on. The lights actually make this one of the best places to photograph the show since you can still (sort of) see the camera dials!

We have stayed at Poly more times than I should admit since 2015. In 2017, we were there Feb, May, July, Oct, and NYE and watched fireworks from the main Poly beach area on at least one night every trip - usually multiple nights.

Yes, often in the past the music on the main Poly beach area was too low if you were far enough out on the beach. I would always recommend people hug the path because the audio was a bit better there (but still often very low).

In July, they had (what I was told) was a recent lighting strike and there was no audio at all, fireworks, normal background music, etc in that area around the beach/pool/Hawaii longhouse. I tended to believe them because there were other "electronics" that didn't work that trip.... MB access to our longhouse... MB access to the pool, etc. I spent some time talking to a maintenance guy on the beach the night of 7/4 who said he was working on it.

By October... the audio on the main Poly beach (the area I define as between the boat dock and the first bungalow) was very much improved. For the first time in what seemed like forever, it was LOUD... like almost distortion level loud. Had the same improved experience around NYE too. As a Poly beach fireworks viewing guy, I was thrilled!

In my experience, audio in other parts of the Poly grounds has been inconsistent.

OP, can I ask, where specifically did you experience the bad audio? If it was on the main beach area, I'm bummed to hear past problems may be back.

We’ve had the same experience evrytime we watch them there too...no sound:(

We watched from TTC this past week. Great view and sound as always. A very pleasant and low stress experience.

.

Never been to TTC. May I ask how soon you would need to arrive to secure a spot? (We will visit during a peek crowd season btw) Thanks

Maybe 20 minutes early? The area where you want to watch is on the boat dock, but it's behind a railing so you have to ask the attendant if you can go stand there to watch. A few years ago we did this and it was fine but they made us wait until closer to show time. This time he let us right back. There were just a few people standing there watching. Sometimes people stop there on their way off the ferry.

@CinderellaDream I’d also be interested to hear where exactly on the Poly beach you experienced these issues. Making me a little concerned for our upcoming trip! Thanks.

We were also there last night, we were sitting on the hill by the Bungalows, sounds was awful bc of the music skipping. We actually left before the finale.

Where can you sit in loungers and relax with good view and a drink from the bar at TTC?
It's been a couple years but I've not experienced the bad audio at Poly but audio could not be heard along the entire beach area. Speakers were too far away in some parts. But grabbing a drink from the pool bar and relaxing in a lounger on the beach is great!

We actually had no problems with the sound at the Poly this week but when we switched to BLT for the last two nights the sound was doing what you describe, cutting out every now and then for a few seconds.

We walked the path from the lobby to the right of the volcano pool (facing the castle) and stopped right at the edge of the sidewalk. The volume was not the problem the night we were there - just the music skipping.
