Fireworks cruises - need advice

I'm trying to get a fireworks cruise set for our trip in December and want to celebrate my son and his best friend's 5th birthday's on it. Well I failed to get a cruise today for 12/10 - I'm so sad. This was the day I really wanted because it is the official birthday.
Anyway - we have the ability to do the Grand Gathering fireworks cruise and I can't seem to find any pictures of the boats they use for that. Does anyone have one? Is it the type of boat with the striped canvas top that takes guest from Wilderness to MK?

Second question - Is the GG cruise that much better than the regular wishes cruise? It's a lot of money to share a boat with several GG families.

Third question - Does anyone have any suggestions for a really special birthday experience for the kids. I'm looking for something really unique.

We just did the Grand Gathering cruise last month. I would HIGHLY recommend this cruise as it is well suited for your son's age. The "guide" plays games, gives out prizes, sings songs and at the end of the cruise Peter Pan will be waiting at the dock. Captain Hook or Smey will lead you to the boats. There is a dessert party at the CR prior to boarding.

I've done a regular wishes cruise also but given your son's age the Grand Gathering is the one I'd recommend for you.

We did a Wishes crusie with another family we "met" here on Dis in Aug 2005 it was AMAZING. As we were leaving we saw the Grand Gatherings cruise getting ready to go, seeing Smee skipping with the kids was AWESOME!!! When we got off our cruise Peter Pan was with the guests from the Grand Gathering cruise my ds LOVES him and the CM said we were not allowed to take a picture with him since we were not aboard the Grand Gathering cruise, BUT Peter Pan had other plans, he asked my kids to come over and talk to him, we got GREAt pictures. If I could not get a Wishes cruise I would DEFINITELY do a Grand Gathering cruise
