Fireworks cancelled often

I know the drought and wind conditions are the cause- but didn't realize how often the show is cancelled. Three times this week. We did see this in the sky prior to the cancellation announcement- I can only guess it's some kind of wind speed/smoke evaluation thing?

It has been a particularly windy week in So Cal from a few storms blowing through. 3 times in one week is not the norm, but it does happen occasionally.

I've seen photos of a smoke ring like that one before; I think I read that it's from a pyrotechnic effect during WoC: Celebrate.

In terms of fireworks, unfortunately, it's not that uncommon for the show to be cancelled. It all depends on the weather, mainly wind conditions above street level. I've also been in the parks when the show has been cancelled several nights in a row (and even a few times when the show was cancelled part way through).

The fact that there are fireworks at all during the week should be a blessing because generally there are only fireworks on the weekends

But yes if its really windy they will cancel fireworks.

Disneyland has been doing nightly fireworks since the kickoff of the 60th anniversary. They were granted special permission to do so by the City of Anaheim.

Ok. But to the question about how often they're cancelled, there normally would not be 7 shows during some of the windy times, so there wouldn't be anything to cancel.

Yes, for the 60th celebration but that doesn't mean it was seven days a week all the time because it most certainly hasn't been for awhile. And I am pretty sure once the 60th ends in September that it will go back to not being a daily thing

Well, obviously. The poster didn't ask for a percentage of how often the fireworks are cancelled. She just mentioned that they have been cancelled 3 times this week so far. But, it has been very windy here this week, so that is the reason. The wind is the only reason why they are cancelled when otherwise they are scheduled to go off. If the wind speed at the height where they measure is more than 15 mph, they are cancelled. There is no leeway.

That's a bummer I didn't realize DL only did fireworks on weekends. I guess I got too spoiled by WDW expecting to see things every night. I'm going for 4 days this July so hopefully I can see them more than once even though I'm only going on one weekend and the rest during the week.

Just confirming what others have posted. The black ring is a byproduct of the massive fireballs featured in WOC Celebrate. While not used to measure wind speed, when I saw the ring over Main Street last night it was not surprising fireworks were cancelled.

In the summer months they go to a daily fireworks schedule, even when they're not having a big celebration like the 60th.

When I was there last week, they had fireworks on Tuesday and Wednesday ( when I was at world of Color) but could see the high level fireworks walking back along Katella avenue but on Thursday when I was in DL itself they cancelled them

I was there for 6 nights, 4/21 thru 4/26 and saw them once. On the 21st - cancelled; 22nd cancelled about a third of the way into show; 23rd cancelled; 24th cancelled; 25th cancelled; 26th WE FINALLY GOT TO SEE THEM!!!

I'm really hoping they aren't cancelled tonight. We tried on Sunday and Monday (both cancelled). Tuesday we were at the Angels game and they actually happened (dammit!). Yesterday they were cancelled (but we weren't in the parks). Tonight is really our only chance to see them, as Friday we'll be trying to see WOC. Fingers are crossed! (But I'm not holding my breath ).

We have yet to catch the fireworks when we've gone to DLR, either due to exhaustion (lol) or inclement weather. Hopefully the weather cooperates this Saturday when we'll be there.

We were there on the 22nd, and I wondered how much we actually got to see. Only a 1/3?? sigh. I wonder if we even saw all of Paint the Night, with that huge delay in the middle for presumably a technical issue. We left on the 25th. At least we saw Paint the Night and WOC. Glad I didn't try for a "make-up" on the 23rd or 24th. Your post makes me feel better about that, b/c clearly we had no chance, LOL!

A CM told me fireworks have only gone off 6 times in the last 3 weeks.

I hope tonight makes 7, but the wind seems worse than yesterday.
