Is anyone having their own fireworks this evening? Or attending an organised display? ( I expect most people had them over the weekend).

Whichever, enjoy and keep safe!

I seem to have heard fireworks throughout the last year - anyone else? ( I heard that they are considering new legislation to prevent them being set off in the early hours - something else I've noticed throughout the past year or so too!! Just wonder how this is going to be policed).

I have two dogs and we all hate this time of year. Personally I cannot understand why people want to spend a fortune and bring dangerous explosives into their houses, when for a fraction of the cost they can go to an organised display!!
Me and my dogs will be hiding under a blanket tonight !!
JMHO

We're having fireworks at home and inviting some friends and family round tonight. Our little dogs will be kept safely inside while they're being set off.

Richard :)

Having not long had a puppy we will be staying in tonight.
In the past we have gone to organised displays at local sports club which is within walking distance of home. They usually put on a good, safe display and have hotdogs and soup on sale, as well as a bar. And at £5 per family it's good value too :)

I don't agree with the sale of fireworks to the general public - especially after a number of local phone boxes have been 'blown up' recently by some mindless yobs!

..we are going to an organised display tonight, first one since 2000..in 2001 we went to wdw for the first time and in November 01 couldn't imagine how a uk display would rival Illuminations! We've got more perspective now and won't compare directly.. besides, you can't get black peas in Epcot!!!

Re: policing any new laws... in short, it won't happen. Keep your pets in and wear earplugs for next Oct/Nov too.. (we were awoken at 1220am on Monday night/morning by 15 minutes of large explosions, not just a few kids chucking an odd firework, but a semi-serious (and probably expensive) display.. at 1220am?!! The morons that do this will just be breaking different laws.. they won't be challenged.) The only serious option is a total ban on direct sale of fireworks to the public... which I doubt any government will have the balls to push through (look at the hunting ban! Ha!.. don't get me started on that one... anybody who gets any pleasure or kicks or satifies any instinct for 'tradition' by causing suffering to any animal wants putting in a phone box with one of those big, illegal fireworks, preferably lit!).... happy days! Mike:teeth:

Well said Mike.
As a person who has had a firework chucked at me ( when I was a small child and at an "organised" display), I can appreciate the damage and suffering these death traps can be. I was lucky enough to escape with one arm of my coat burnt, however the man standing next to me was not so fortunate.
I have believed for years that fireworks should only be sold to licensed organised events and have never bought my kids any form of firework in their lives, not even a sparkler.
We have gone to events, but not this year.
My youngest has been keeping on for the last hour about firework night so i told him to stick his head out the window and see somebody else's.
I can think of better ways to spend my hard earned cash that burning it away, like sticking a fiver into the poppy appeal boxex for a start.
Used to be a time that you kept your cat in so's not to get them frightened, now you have to keep them in so's no mindles idiots don't set fire to them. this has just happened in my town last week
That poor cat had the most horrific death and left a family heartbroken.
And like you Mike, I have very strong feelings about the " Hooray Henrys that chase defensless animals to their death in the name of sport. If they want sport, go kick a football around the field.
I'm now going to step off my soap box and calm down:mad:

We have a new law this year that requires you to have a licence for home use.

I think there should only be organised display's. Back garden fireworks shouldn't be allowed. We have had firesworks going off for the last 2 weeks.

We are staying in with my kitties - although Simba seems to like looking out the window at them :)

I know this is isn't a debate but people have said their opinions anyway and I most certainly don't agree with -

Back garden fireworks shouldn't be allowed.

We have had our own fireworks at home or been to displays at friends/families houses for most of the past years now. As long as you act safely and with caution and stick to 'The Firework Code' there can be few problems when having fireworks at home. Millions of people have displays at their home each year, and out of this only an extremely small percentage of accidents occur. I understand that they can be dangerous, especially in certain areas if people use them in a bad way, but the vast percentage of people use them with respect. I know it can be annoying have fireworks going off at weird times or dates, and maybe there should be a time/date restriction made, so people that don't like fireworks can stay in or go somewhere firework-free so the people that actually enjoy the celebrations of bonfire night can celebrate.

Richard.

My Dad is over visiting his sister in Sheffield. They were supposed to go to a bonfire tonight in Wentworth - I hope it was fun! He and my sister were there last year at this time and had a great time at the bonfire!

Wish I was there too!

hi all:wave:
we have had boys on our estate throwing fireworks for at least the last month, one even just missed us as we were going in i was so angry:mad: my youngest son wouldn't go asleep last night because he was so affraid they were going to come in throught the window
anyway i do'nt agree with them being banned altogether as there are sensible people out there that will use them as they should be used i think that they should not be sold untill at least the weekend before 5th november and maybe stop being sold about a day or two after and maybe this would stop us having to listern to them going off weeks before

eve:D
