Firewall

What is one??
I have registered with ebay and made a mess of it forgot my password and now they have emailed me to say they have sent it to my ebay account email address but maybe the firewall or firewalls are blocking it.
I havent got a clue what it is or what i need to do
Help!!!

Not very good on technicalities but the firewall protects you from unwanted 'attacks' ? ? !!

Do you have a security programme running?
For example Norton?
If so, you can open up the programme and 'turn off' your firewall for a short length of time-this, however, leaves your computer open to 'attacks'

I believe that there is, also, a firewall on some of the newer 'Windows' programmes but that's where I begin to get confused..............

A firewall is a network security device that limits access to a network based on rules that have been programed into it. Many home networks now use personal firewalls that are installed as part of the virus protection package.

For email, though, it's most likely a spam filter rather than a firewall that's causing the problem. If your email program has one, check the spam folder to see if the email is there. If not, you can add the EBay email address to your address book. Depending on where the email is being blocked, this may allow it to come through by identifying the sender as someone you know.

Oh whenever I have a problem with a pc at home or work its always the firewall, and its always the last thing I think of!!!!

Yes it blocks access to your pc/network and I had to switch both the windows one and the Norton one to 'allow' connections at work so we could network both pc and laptops.

Then we got a new pc last week with vista and its all gone duff again!!
