Just like last year, there are fires in the LA area. I feel so sorry for these people who have lost their homes and businesses. I feel guilty asking this question because we will be going to the happiest place on earth and these people will be sifting through the ashes trying to find anything of their former lives to keep. :guilty:
My DMIL has COPD and doesn't do well with a lot air congestion, i.e. smoke, lots of smog . . . what is the air quality at DL? Also, last year there was ash in the air, is that the case this year too?

The fires aren't affecting the OC area at all. Everything is dandy except for the stupid wind! Have a great trip.

Fortunately, DL has been left unharmed of the fires. You just get a nasty smell in the air. It ruins the traditional DL atmosphere. I was afraid when I heard the fires were heading south closer to us.

There are different weather reporting sources on line, that one can keep an eye on, regarding these types of subjects, i.e. pollen count, UV index, smog alerts, etc. I like these various sites.
I like to watch the Weather Channel, because you can see what the weather is everywhere via that station.

Ew, it effected our drive home last night!! BOO!

It took is 3 hours to get home. When usually the drive is a little more than an hour home. It was crazy crazy crazy. We got backed up going North on the 5 and the 101.

Besides that it was super super windy at DLR yesterday and you could smell the smoke, but it wasn't bad.

Did the windy day affect the crowd level at all?

The fires are mostly all up in northwest portion of the counties - past the San Fernando Valley and near the Simi Valley - off the 118 freeway near the 5 in an area call Porter Ranch - near the Northridge area - famed for it's earthquake. I actually have to run an errand that way in a few minutes, so I'm not looking forward to going through there.

Ehh, not really. Yesterday was a little crowded for a Monday, but I think it was because it was Columbus Day. I know the fireworks were cancelled. But it wasn't too bad.

I was thinking about you yesterday! I saw on the news there was a fire in Burbank, is that near you?

The Simi fire is close to here, but I haven't been outside since this morning so I don't know how we are with smoke and everything...

I hope the wind dies down so the firefighters can get this fire under control and out so that it doesn't damage any more homes. My aunt is very close to the fire in Porter Ranch but they have not been given any notice to evacuate yet.

Also I want to see fireworks next week!

Thanks for thinking of us - we hadn't heard about the fire here. We're plenty fine. We live deep into the flat plains of Burbank - 10-12 blocks from the Disney Studios off the 134. Burbank does spread north and up into the Verdugo Hills and there is a lot of dry area up there, so I'm not surprised. An awful lot would have to happen for anything to reach us, thank God!

I didn't realize you guys were close to Simi! I just got back from driving up to Simi on an errand. I'll keep you in our thoughts and hope the winds die down soon. I couldn't believe how strong they were up there for this time of year! I even stopped at the big strip mall at the Porter Ranch exit to go to the JoAnn's. They had closed off any traffic going north up Porter Ranch Rd. past the shopping center. You could see where the fire got to the freeway yesterday and how close it still was. I could even still see a tiny smoulder while driving. There was another area on the Simi side of that pass that was burning close to the freeway.

Disney-inspired - my thoughts go out to your aunt. It's just awful.

Yeah, we were watching the news yesterday morning getting ready to head to the parks. We were concerned because all the freeways were closed and they were directing all the traffic to the I5 (which we take home).

The news said Burbank, but they didn't say what part.. Glad you guys are okay though...

We're about 30 minutes from Simi, maybe a little less. They're still in our county. I work in Camarillo, and I took the SB101 to go to Subway for lunch today and I can see smoke from the bottom of the grade. It smells smokey over here, but it isn't bad.

There was another fire in Santa Paula yesterday. SP is about 15 minutes from my house. It's always dry over there, so I'm not suprised about that one.

I have pictures on the way home last night from when we passed I'm guessing the fire that was in Burbank. We were on the NB101 and it was after LA. The Super Scooper airplanes were passing over us. I was trying to get a picture of the flames in the hills, but I couldn't because cars kept passing us. But I do have some of the smoke.

It's that time of year in CA. It's almost inevitable that there will be a wildfire somewhere in the LA area.

We lived there for 3 yrs and lived up in the desert north of LA and you could go outside and just smell the fires. It never bothered me much and I don't think it's going to bother me next week when we head back - even when the smoke is really heavy in the air.

Thanks for the reminder about the wind. I forgot how windy it is in CA this time of the year too. Hopefully it won't be too bad.

Yesterday morning the wind was terrible in Anaheim. At our hotel the trees' branches were flying off and umbrellas from the pool area flew over the gate and were in the parking lot... It died down after around 11AM, but it was still realyl crazy strong wind...

the porter ranch fires are extremely close to where i used to live in simi valley until 3 months ago. they had the 118fwy closed from my old exit (stearns) yesterday. where i work, the smoke and ash yesterday was terrible!! like walking through the middle of a camp fire! but supposedly they're 70% contained. and still a good 60 miles from anaheim.

For us, as I've posted in other threads, those high Santa Ana winds can prevent the fireworks from happening. We have yet to see them in three trips in the past 2 1/2 years! We had to go to WDW to see fireworks

I heard a rumor the fire has spread to the last couple rooms of POTC.

Yes, I can attest to that sentiment, Doom Bugger! :) Also, the dog still has the key, and the scalawag prisoners, continue to behave under the delusion that they can actually bribe the dog, in order to retrieve it. ha! ha!
