Is anyone worried that the fires are going to ruin their upcoming Disney vacation? I just heard about a fire on the news thats right outside of Orlando that they can't get under control. It started out as a 40 acre brushfire and has now spread to over 1000 acres just today I think they said. Isn't that crazy? Its in Paisley about an hour from Orlando. We leave in the middle of June and I'm terrified we won't be able to go. Obviously I'm scared for the people who live there also but I'm really worried about my trip. It is 3 of my childrens first trip to Disney and what if we can't go? Gawd, that makes me sound so selfish.
ETA: I had to edit this because I am truly not a selfish person. My heart goes out to everyone who is in these fires and the fire fighters who are fighting them. It is truly a sad, sad thing. If the worst that happens is that I can't go to Disney as planned so be it. I did not lose my home or my life. Again, I am so, so sorry for everyone living near these fires and to everyone who has family/ friends there.

There are a lot of different fires burning, at this time, in the state of Florida. Unfortunately, this has become to common. We are way behind in rainfall. That being said, don't worry about your vacation. The chances of a fire closing the parks is very slim. There was actually a fire on WDW property last year and it did not affect the parks other than the smell of smoke.

Believe me, if the fires get close to WDW, I will let everyone know since that would be way to close for comfort for me. The best thing everyone can do is pray for some rain for Florida. I know that no one wants rain on their vacation, but the fires will continue until we start getting some rain.

Yeah, the fires have been crazy! I live about 1 1/2 to 2 hrs south of Disney on the east coast, and we had to keep our kids inside the first half of this week...so much smoke in the area from fires burning north, south, and west of us! Luckily, we just had some rain so I hope that will help.

I hope that everything goes well with your trip :yay: :yay: :yay: , and I hope that everyone fighting the fires and in the line of the fires stays safe! :grouphug:

Fires, just like hurricanes, are part of our lives here. Probably nothing to worry about where your trip is concerned.

These posts made me feel so much better about my trip. We don't leave until June 16th. I will pray for Lots and Lots of rain before June 16th and beautiful weather from June 16th on!
We have a friend in Vero Beach and we talked to him last week and so far nothing was as far down as him I don't think, or if it was it wasn't affecting him or his family.
I do pray that these fires stop and no one else gets hurt. I also pray that all of the fire fighters are kept safe. With 4 children I rarely watch the news, I'm always on Nick Jr. or Disney, so just last week was the first I even knew about any fires this year.

I heard this on the news too, it's just awful. I can remeber years ago going to Florida and everything was SO GREEN and pretty everywhere, but for the last 3 - 4 years Florida has basically been in a drought and on fire. Don't worry about your vacation like I said Florida has been on fire for a few years and it has never affected our trips other than noticing some smoke but that's always when we go down to Melbourne to visit family, we've only really noticed the smoke on property once and that was last year but it that was only early in the morning for a couple of days and usually cleared out by 10 -11 am so not a big deal. I live in New Mexico so I am used to droughts and things constantly starting on fire we've had some really bad ones here the last few years but it seems to be getting better in fact we're supposed to have rain all day today and we had rain last week too. Here's to Florida getting some good amounts of rain soon.

I think the only way it would affect your family is if anyone had severe asthma or other breathing problems. I know when they are bad, they advise those with breathing issues to stay inside.

Unfortunately, we Floridians are getting used to summer wildfires.

We saw all of the fires on the news this morning. My son said "Look Orlando, that's where we're going!!" He didn't see all of the flame graphics all over the state.

I feel for the hot-shot crews fighting in such heat and humidity.
