Fires affecting DLR?

Not sure how, if at all, things are being affected by the fires in the area.

I'm not in Anaheim - about 20-30 minutes south. The fires will not touch DLR, but the air will be bad. Expect hot, extremely dry air with winds for the next couple of days. The air will also be smokey. Because of so many fires and the winds, you will not only be able to see and smell the smoke, but probably taste it also.

There are fires near the Wild Animal Park in San Diego area, and HWY 15 is closed from the HWY 78 to hwy 56 (I believe it's that far). That means that HWY 5 is very congested in San Diego from North County (Oceanside) down to San Diego. I'm sure it is also congested further north in Orange County. Officials in San Diego are asking that you stay off the roads and stay home if you can. The roads are needed for emergency vehicles and evacuees. Whole towns have been evacuated in San Diego County and all the schools in the county have been closed.

Again, I'm not sure what is happening up north in Orange County and Anaheim, but I bet the scenario is close to the same.

From other posts I'm reading that the skies are brown, winds are bad and lots of smoke.

We had this conditions a few years ago (pretty much the same week too). The smoke was terrible, everyone had on medical face masks. Of course I had a cold on top of it, made it very hard for me to breath.

I went to Disneyland yesterday before the fire that is closest to Disneyland started. It was so dusty and windy. I was covered in a layer of dust. Terrible air quality. So, while no direct impact, the area will have terrible wind, dust, and such. We live closer in Irvine to that fire, but we can smell it in our house, so you will most likely be able to smell it at DL.

We are heading from KC to Disneyland tomorrow. Are any highways from LAX to the resort closed? I am really worried about the flying into lax.

The roads from LAX to the Disneyland area are fine. The fires are to the north and east of this area.

Thanks for the quick response. My wife and I are watching CNN right now. We were thinking of going down to San Diego to visit Sea World and the Hotel del Coronado for one day but it looks like that is off limits now. We have one day off and I am wondering if we shouldn't try to go to Catalina?

Will the winds from the Santa Anna prohibit fireworks and fantasmic for this weekend? Do the winds blow in the evening as well?

yes KCmike winds can affect fireworks and Fantasmic...sometimes Ive seen it barely blowing and they've canceled them...unfortunately for us we have to wait till the last possible minute to find out if they are canceled...I can still hear that announcement in my head over and over when they tell you of the possibility of cancelation:rotfl:

There were a couple of fires in OC last night and we could smell smoke, but didn't smell or see smoke this morning. The winds and blowing dust will continue for a couple more days, but if we're lucky there won't be any more fires in this part of the southland. The problems are predominantly north and northwest of L.A.
I posted the above in another thread, but now see that things are smoky outside with bits of ash falling from the sky.

Do you think Long Beach airport will be affected? We fly into there on Wednesday and will make our way to Huntington Beach for a couple hours to visit my grandparents and then to Anaheim. Does anyone forsee any problems for us? From reading the news online it looks like they expect the next day or two to be bad but then for it to start calming down and get more under control on Wednesday, with the winds expected to have died down. How long does it usually take for the air to clear up after something like this? We did not buy trip cancellation insurance so we're going no matter what but I'm definitely worried!

I don't expect there to be problems at Long Beach Airport - it's not near the fire zones.

thats terrible about the fires! is there any possibility that there might still be dust in the air/smoke in november when I go?

From my past experience living in So Cal, the worst of the fires were usually over by mid November. It would be cooler by then and easier to control. However, there are never any guarantees.

I'm supposed to be flying out to DL on Wednesday. We're taking our son for his birthday, and have tix to the Halloween Treat event. I don't really care if the sky is pretty or not, but my son has asthma, and dust and ash in the air could cause him serious health-problems. Can anyone on the ground there provide any additional info about conditions?

We just got back from DL today. The air is very smoky and you can actually see ashes falling from the sky. We ate outside at Cafe Orleans and our water glasses were covered in ash and debris. In addition, the wind was so strong that it blew our salad off the table!
Disneyland lost three trees to the wind, one right by the fountain at ToT.
We left the park early last night because the wind was so strong.

I feel so badly for those who are loosing their homes to these horrible fires. :guilty:

I was at Disneyland for a few hours today (10/22) and was just going to post something quite different than Iggipolka.
Go figure :confused3

We didn't see any ash or smell smoke in the parks at all. In fact we spoke with several people and all of us were trying to figure out how the Disney folks worked that bit of magic. ;)

There was defintely blowing dust though. The Santa Ana winds were crazy!

That said, driving past Irvine on the I5 was ugly. I was choking and my eyes were itchy and watering and I'm not normally bothered by asthma or allergies at all.

I imagine a lot depends on what direction the winds are blowing while you're there and whether the firefighters are able to get a handle on things.
This hot, dry weather and the out of control winds are not helping.

Some pretty scary fire stuff happening right now (but none in the immediate Disneyland area)
:sad1:

I'm a manager at a nearby hotel, and you can definetly smell the smoke. And the wind doesn't make it very pleasant to stay outdoors. . .

Last night, I woke up coughing from the dust and soot. So it's not very pleasant, but it's still do able. . .

BTW, I wouldn't recommend going in any of the outdoor pools around here!

Same, im 5 miles away from Disney and i cant see no ashes in the air, though the sky is all yellow...

smells terrible and the wind is insanely strong...

I stayed on Katella and you could smell the smoke later on in the evening. It was dustier than all get out. The hotel pool had layer of dirt on the bottom.
I feel sorry for custodial at DL,leaves in just about every shop.
