Firefox not working for vmk?

FWIW, I fired off an e-mail to the vmk peeps. Not that i'll get any response, why should they ruin a perfect record of nothingness now? lol But hopefully someone will see it and realize that something changed between last night and today, and it's not good lol. :badpc: :badpc: :badpc:

User Agent Switcher did nothing for me. :(
Still have the Black Screen o' Death with the ominous "Done" at the bottom
left corner, as always.

And IE is being a bear. Arg.

Woohoo, more Mac users!

(Though I know other Mac users who also prefer Firefox -- will try it at some point.)

any suggestions on a downloadable browser other than firefox for the time being? Anything has to be better than I.E. lol.

Lemme see what I can play with at work today. User Agent Switcher worked for me on my desktop at work, so I'll have to see how I have Shockwave installed with it.

Didn't even realize it wouldn't work, cause I'd tried it before I'd posted about it.

Sorry! :/

Before I reformatted my system in June I was using Avant. I really, really liked it and it worked well with VMK - at the time. I've since switched to Firefox, but miss some of the features on Avant. The odd thing about Avant is that it's like a "shell" in that it is layered over IE...but doesn't have the security issues that IE has. Don't ask me how - I'm not a programmer. ;)

Eh, it's probably me. Just when I think I'm savvy, I realize more that I
don't know what I'm doing. I used the Tools menu to notice UAS marked
'default', and not knowing much about it, tried the IE mode.

Again, I have no idea if I even did anything. LOL!

lori,

yes it does work. I tried going to sites that require you to have ie, which i couldnt get to in firefox, and now i could. But the problem lies when you try to actually log in to VMK masked as ie. thats when we get the error message saying the shockwave plugin does not work with ie and to download shockwave from macromedia. (which we did lol). So the thing does work, its just not working with shockwave sites.

Ok. I used my Firefox browser, set the user agent to the Netscape4.8 one listed and I'm playing happily. Try it and see how it works for y'all :)

Hi aeryn.

Thanks for the tip about the user agent. Alas, I am having the same shockwave problem when using it for IE. I tried using it for Netscape 4.8, and encountered no shockwave problem. I also saw the black screen of death when using Netscape 4.8 and never saw the light of VMK. :( Lol, any more suggestions or ideas? I wonder why your work computer is not encountering the same problems. It gives me hope though that eventually we will be able to use firefox again. There must be a setting or something that's different on your computer.

Anyways, thanks for the tips. :)

Woot Shiregirl!!! Welcome!

I have not seen you in a forever, I think. Hope you drop by occasionally (or often!).

yep, same here.

Default (firefox) = Black Screen of death
Netscape 4.8 = same thing
I.E. = doesnt even get to b.s.o.d. because of shockwave error message.

but you are right, there is hope...lol

Still nothing for me, even changing to the Netscape browser. Oh well

Hmm. Now I'm determined to figure this out. I've been playing all morning on Firefox with the User Agent set to Netscape 4.8...

So, let's start from the basics:
Firefox version: 1.0.6
User Agent Switcher version: 0.6.6
Shockwave version: 10.1.0.11

Start Firefox,
Click Tools, User Agent Switcher, select: Netscape 4.8

In Firefox: www.vmk.com, enter game.
Small window launches for game.
Play Jungle Cruise repeatedly :)

Hopefully that'll help. If you want to PM me with your AIM name, I'm happy to try to help (while working...)

ok, one more time from the top...

Firefox version: 1.0.6
User Agent Switcher version: 0.6.6
Shockwave version: 10.1.0.11

Start Firefox,
Click Tools, User Agent Switcher, select: Netscape 4.8

In Firefox: www.vmk.com, LOG-IN to game.
Small window launches for game.
vmk logo disappears
black screen of death is upon me
get up, walk down the hall
utter a few obscene words
sit back down
type on dis boards about my adventure

yep, thats about it lol. but thanks for trying to help.
I have gone in today using (the real) I.E. to get credits and such, but now i am even having problems stacking crates and moving furniture lol. So i'll keep plugging away at this firefox till i get it fixed or throw my comp out the window. ;) :badpc: :badpc: :badpc:

Ok I am having trouble with moving stuff too. I am trying to add crates to the teleporter lobby and it will not let me place them. How frustrating!

Hey all.

DD and I (2 seperate computers) both have been getting black screen of death all morning using firefox (like we always use).

So for the heck of it we try Internet Explorer and we both get in???

Anyone else having problems getting in with firefox this morning?

Better yet, is anyone already IN using firefox?

Just wondering what is up. Checked settings on both comps and nothing is different than any other day. And obviously my dsl & firefox is working, i am using it right here lol. :confused3 :confused3 :confused3
I was using it but it stopped
:moped:
