Firearms

When we were dumped in thee K Mart parking lot last year by the tow truck driver I was very glad to have it.
As a rule we don't leave home without it because as earlier stated I would rather have it and never need it than not have it and be in a bad situation far from home.

I can shoot straight, if I don't have to shoot too far

"No weapons of any kind are allowed on the Walt Disney World Resort premises. All weapons must be checked in upon arrival and secured during your stay at Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground"

Not trying to inflame anyone or start a political debate, but that's the stated rule and we're not supposed to be promoting violation of official WDW policy on these boards.

You bring guns to Disneyworld/Ft Wilderness?!! That's just frightening...

If you think thats frightening,
just stop and think of all the horrible people and all of the horrible things that people do ,(right here in the United States). Now remember that Disney allows ANYONE to camp at the Fort if they have money.

On my long Fort trip when I checked in I told the CM I had a firearm with me. She went and got the duty manager he told me I had to bring it in and lock it up. After we setup our site I drove the weapon up the front desk the duty manager walk me around the corner were the phones are and watch me unload the weapon. He handed me a large zip tie for zip tying the slide open. After I did that we walked to the back to a safety deposited box I put my weapon in. He told me to keep the clip and key until check out.

If you live in Jupiter, FL, (which is only about 150 miles from Fort Wilderness) why would you even bring a firearm with you only to lock it up at the front desk?:confused3:confused3 I would have just left it home locked up in my own secure location.

I knew we were going to spend 9 month at the Fort. So i took my weapon with me not leaving it in my home a 150 miles away for anyone to take.

I don't own a gun, but I respect the right for anyone else to lawfully have one. It's just not a big deal to me.

It seems like there are quite a few that pack/carry/wear/have some sort of gun in their camper. There are probably quite a few combined years of carrying here.

How many have been in situations where you felt concerned enough to pull out your weapon, load it and were considering using it while camping?

I've been camping/backpacking since I was 8 (I'm a few months shy of 50 now) and I don't think I have ever been in a situation where I wish I had a weapon. I understand the concern about "when you need one, it's better to have than not", but how many times have you really felt the need to have vs it was comfortable knowing you had?

I don't go camping much and have never in the fort but I can understand why someone may want to carry while camping. I once had an experience where someone was walking around out tent in the middle of the night getting close to the tent. When my fiance opened the tent to look out we could hear the person running away. Honestly I won't tent camp again after that it just freaked me out. What if we weren't awake? I have to say I understand.

Thats why I have never had any intrest in tent camping or popups for that matter to easy to access while we are sleeping. We used to laugh about how worthless the door locks are on popups when we were doing the inspection on a sold one.:confused3
We do leave the door to the MH unlocked and sometimes open when nice weather but atleast there is only one way in. Besides they would encounter DW first and I pitty the fool that wakes her up in the middle of the night:laughing:

Thanks everyone for your stories. I completely understand the comfort while traveling. I've stopped at some questionable truck stops late in the evening and kept looking over my shoulder. The only time I was approached was in a rest stop when we were towing the race trailer. A "couple" that was asking/begging for "gas money" to get to some way off city. When we said no, they moved on without any problem.

The reason I asked, was I have always felt very comfortable at campgrounds. Never been in a situation where I felt threatened except maybe by some of the wildlife.

It sounds like Disney has their rules posted and a reasonable process in place for those that feel the need to travel with a firearm. I find it funny though that the rule generically states "weapons". There are a lot of things besides a firearm that I'd could use as a weapon. I could do some serious damage with my baseball bat and kitchen knives and I'm sure I don't have to check those in.
