I should have known this would happen. I booked Pop Century for a less expensive weekend with DH, since I was already traveling to Orlando, and DH got 1 way "free." Now I think that if SSR has room, it would be that much nicer to have a studio, with a sofa to watch TV and a balcony. We are arriving late and so I imagine that Carousel is where we'll end up. Does anyone who stayed in that section and experienced the fire sirens go off feel that it wasn't "that bad." Can you get a good night's sleep?

Of course, if SSR is already booked for September, well, we'll be happy there...DH more than me...I'm OK for 1 night, but for 3, I'm less happy.

We have stayed many times at SSR and have never heard the sirens from the fire house.

How many fires are there in Reedy Creek? There are no houses, just Disney and the hotel zone.

But there are a lot of ambulance calls...don't know about hearing the fire stations sirens but knowing Disney (and Reedy Creek) you shouldn't be bothered too terribly much at night (if at all). Enjoy your trip!

Alright, do the ambulance calls bother your sleep? I thought that was a fire station across the way, just goes to show what I didn't know!:rotfl:
I guess it really doesn't matter...I would rather be at SSR than POP so I booked it. It will be nice to have a sofa, balcony and a washing machine available for use at least before I go on my way on Monday morning.

Fire stations mean ambulances. We weren't bothered by them when we stayed there though. It's a big place.

We stayed at CBR and had the fire/rescue station near our room.

Daytime heard it a few times Nightime never . Have a great time!:dance3:

Hey Bobbi,

I know exactly how you feel!! We booked Pop for after our cruise with Free Dining. I have been stressing ever since! I keep telling myself, just stay at Pop! You'll be fine! You get Free Dining!

But I keep checking availability for DVC. I know I will jump ship sooner or later. I'm stressing too much! I keep thinking, after 15 nights on a ship, do I really want to stay in that little room? Do I want to sleep in that little bed? What about the laundry?

Thankfully September is a slow month and I booked a DVC resort. Dh will be totally perturbed, he can stay anywhere.

The more I own DVC the less compromising I have become.

As for SSR and the rooms close to the Fire Station, all the rooms have the same soundproofing with Double Paned glass and you should not hear any street noise. Most people that have stayed in the Carousel, have complained about the Distance but not noise. I doubt if they have over 85% occupancy in September, so you may still get your requested location.
BCV was sold out but availability looked good everywhere else.:wizard:

LIFERBABE! I was just reading your thread about the earthquake. I think you'll have a wonderful time on the cruise, how long is it?

I did cancel POP, am going with SSR, but am on a waitlist for VWL. At VWL, the weekend was available, but Sunday the 14th was not. I feel LOTS better already about that trip!:goodvibes DH and I together at WDW, yeah! Since I'm spending the rest of the week in Orlando with a DGF, I'm not tempted to invite someone else to come along for the weekend, DH is a very happy guy!:rotfl:

Hi, Bobbi, I booked a very last minute trip to SSR in March (as in exactly 1 week before we arrived), and made a request for Grandstand or Congress Park.

Well, we expected to make it to the resort by 11 PM, but due to weather delays at our home airport, we didn't get to SSR until 3 AM :scared1: I thought we were doomed for sure. Well guess what? We were placed in Congress Park! :cutie:

Boy, that sure made up for the rotten start to the trip!

So, you just never know. It was a last minute trip and just about the latest possible check-in. And we still got a decent room location. Just make the request with MS, and I'm sure you'll be fine. :goodvibes

My brother is a firefighter (although not at Disney) and he has told me before that at night time they usually only do lights. With traffic lighter they don't need to use the siren. Of course he said they may use it through a light or to get traffic to move if need be.

I rarely hear sirens at Disney during the day so I doubt night would be more so.

I agree with MrsNick - Go ahead and make your room request for wherever you want to be and I bet you have as good a chance as anyone to get it. They don't make the room assignments until the day you arrive - at least that's what I was told. You've got as good a chance as anyone to get what you want.

Good luck and have a GREAT time.

MrsNick, That's good to hear...a request that was granted:goodvibes

Traveliz, thanks for the info and a thank you to your brother for being:goodvibes a hero!

I'm a lucky gal...my August plans include Cape May, Yellowstone and Grand Teton, and the September it's WDW in DVC!

Bobbi

They did not bother us in the Paddocks in the building directly across from the Fire Station, soundproofing at SSR is very good.

As long as your sliding glass door is closed it should not be a problem. The glass is not "sound proof" but it sure is close!

There were brush fires when we were down last, and it seemed the FD was out every 20 minutes!

I stayed up later than DW and she went to bed, got some o fthe best sleep of her life , (of course walking 20 miles a day kinda helps too)... lol

Sirens are usually used when there is someone in front of them or at intersections. With the ability to control the signals they trip them in there favor.

If someone is blowing a siren nowadays just to hear it is a cowboy and would be told to knock it off.

I am in the subs of chicago and I have seen fire trucks go down the road with only their lights on and blowing siren only if people won't get out of the way or they can't trip the signal light.

Even with the new light changers (which only work part of the time) with the right on red laws and the general not paying attention people most officers will always use the siren when going through an intersection (along with slowing down to be able to stop if needed) unless they are assured that no one is in the area of the intersection. Now for a field fire most will take it really easy unless there is a serious risk to a structure or a life.

I take it the station do not have station sirens. That would be good because I might be dressed and half way out the door before I realized I was not home.

FYI: Massachusetts motor vehicle laws for operation of an emergency vehicle require that all warning devices visual and audible be activated when responding to an incident, so don't be so fast to assume that the operator is being a "cowboy" as you put it. Not to get technical on what is supposed to be a blog about the "happiest Place of Earth" lol.
