was wondering if anyone else had more info on this.....

An engine fire at
Kilimanjaro Safaris
at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Florida yesterday injured four people and shut down the ride for the day.

Multiple sources quote a park official as reporting that an engine hosed failed, starting the fire. Three people were treated at the scene for minor injuries,
and a girl was taken to Celebration Hospital for a reported knee injury, after jumping from the vehicle.

The ride opened again this morning.

It hardly seems newsworthy. Not only was the ride back in operation the next day; even the truck with the damaged hose was back in service the next day.

It's just a shame that some guests on Sunday didn't get to ride Kilimanjaro Safaris, and that there were a few minor injuries.

I was evacuated of off Big Thunder Mountain Railroad one evening about 4 years ago. The CM took us through the inside of the mountain. Apparently, that's a big no-no.

wow....inside the mountain?. where the trains go?. wow.....what is it like!. tell me, how did it work?. did you have to climb down a ladder or something, is there like loads of alarms and stuff.

other thing i've wanted to do, is a test run...

I did a ride evacuation off of test track we walked past the truck and i believe the corrosion test area it was a few years ago.

I did a ride evacuation off of Test Track as well, years ago...we ended up going through something that looked like the Cast Members locker room!!

what else can you tell me about ride evacuations, why do you evacuate?. why can't you just sit there and wait for it to move.

sorry i'm asking so many questions......but now we're talking real cast member stuff!. always been interested in stuff like this, and if any cms want to message me, feel free!. will ask sooo many questions!

In Test Track the ride stopped just after we had left the building, so were just building up steam. The cast members came around after awhile and then lead us along the track, down some stairs and into the building. As we were leaving the locker room, or whatever it was there was a sign "Smile You're on Stage!"

stage?. what the hell has that gotta do with a locker room. hahaha. anyway, glad it was an easy process

Anyplace where you are visible by guests is called the stage. I worked at the Disney Store years ago and the door that led into the store from the back room had the same kind of sign.

I guess that's why they're called cast members as they are in the cast of a play...so are always on stage. I guess I should have mentioned that door out of the locker room, was out to the public area that you see after you get off Test Track

i actually never thaught of that....good observation.

what happened with test track, did they fix it later in the day?, or did it close. i still don't understand why you can't just sit there waiting...

This happened in January 2000. I can't remember when Test Track originally opened, but I remember that they were still working on the kinks, so when it went down it was down for awhile. I'd hate to be stuck in the section where they're testing the environmental effects....the heat or the cold or the acid!!! At least I had been through most of the ride....just didn't get the high speed part...which is really the most fun though.

Test Track vehicles are on a powersled which is mounted on the bottom of the car as a guide. To get to these speeds very fast at that year with the ride being the only ones in the world using them is very difficult and takes lots of power. This happens alot and i've been evacutated from test track on 3 occasions for this cause. The ride gets to the crash test where it needs to gain the speed. If the ride does not make the required speed it will throw off sensors which know to stop the ride. Most of the time it is the vehicle that is in launch or has just been launched. That is why the ride is down alot and evacs alot. Oh and you wouldn't want to wait becuase you can't just restart the powersleds once there off they are off. Someone from miatnance must go around turning them all back on and then they have to get them back in sync so yea I wouldn't wanna wait.

okay, maybe tht was not a good example. how about, for example, if you have to evacuate splash mountain, or it's a small world

You really want to sit an hour in iasm, waiting for the ride to be up an running again????

I have once been evacuated from the Indy ride in DL, and we saw an evactuation from California Screamin' at DCA. We were having dinner with the princesses, sat outside, so it was something nice to entertain us in between princesses and courses.
We saw the train at the first hill be evacuated, people just walked off the stairs next to the track. We didn't see the train on top of the big hill been evacuated though, I wouldn't want to have to walk down those steps since that thing is freaking high!

Wanted to add:

One day, my brother and I were in the last row of Space Mountain at DLP. At some point, the train we were in did an emergency-stop. So, we are there, in the dark, not moving, but could still hear the other trains going. I was so scared, wishing the other trains would be stopped too because I didn't want the next one hit me in the back!
