Has anyone switched from comcast to fios recently? I called comcast yesterday & for the first time in many years they were not willing/able to offer me the same plan I had in a comparable price range.

By the end of my conversation with them I had lowered my bill by about $15.00 per month, bu the amount of services I cut leaves me feeling like I got screwed. (I dropped 4 premium channels to get that reduction)

So I called fios & they can offer me a plan with more than I am getting right now from comcast for about $15.00 less than my new comcast rate (locked in service for 1 year, price guaranteed for 2 years), and with the free mini netbook.

My only hesitation is that I hate to lose the email addys I have had for so many years. I set up a few gmail accounts last night & started changing my email info on here, FB & a few other forums.

So, all in all, if you have fios for phone, interent & tv, are you happy with it????????? Give it to me straight!

We switched from Time-warner to Fios and love it! DH thinks it's much faster (I am mainly an email person so I don't really notice any difference) and we've had no issues with the cable or phone.

I'm in NJ and just switched from Cablevision to Fios. So far so good. We were able to keep our phone number but we had to switch our email address. They tell you that you lose all of your emails after 14 days but it's been two months and I can still access my old email address. My husband REALLY wanted to switch over because Vios offers more sports channels and it has higher internet and a better picture quality.
When I first received my bill it was higher than I expected. I called and threatened to cancel and now it is even maybe a little less than Cablevision plus they gave me all of the premium channels for free for three months.

We switched because we decided to go digital and we were just not happy with the Comcast customer service. We had Comcast for over 25 years. They kept moving channels to their digital grid and we were losing many channels with no decrease in our monthly rate. So it seemed a good time to make the switch.

However, we only did the tv at this time. It has been fine; no complaints. Verizon customer service is much better than Comcast, IMHO. They can use the existing wires in your home to start your FIOS service. The tech was at our house for approximately 6 hours. You can have up to 3 tvs changed over at no fee; after that there is a fee. We do not have any premium channels except the HD Sports package; we had access to free HBO/Cinemax for a month, but decided not to continue it.

My buddy really knows his stuff when it comes to all of this. He's got a monster size flat screen, huge surround system, etc... Basically he's got the works.

He had the top tier Comcast offers and decided to switch to Fios.

HE HATED IT! He said the HD quality was incredibly poor compared to what Comcast had. He stopped service after 3 days and went back to Comcast.

We switched from Comcast to Verizon Fios 1 year ago in July. I tried to get comcast to lower my bill, but they seemed uninterested in my business. So I called Verizon and made the switch. I, like you, was hesitant about switching my emails. So I set up a gmail account before I was about to lose comcast. Guess what, I still have my comcast email working. I do not use it and haven't for a year, but I check it randomly to see if I have anything important. Oh and by the way if you do switch from comcast, keep your receipts. They continued to bill me and bill me and one day in late Sept. some guy came to our door telling me if I write him a check right now he can restore our comcast cable. I laughed! He then disconnected my cable and they continued to bill me for July, Aug, and Sept. I finally took them my receipt showing them when I returned all my equipment I think they finally got it.

I have no problems with Fios. We've never had an outage due to storms (we did with Comcast). If I got a free netbook, I'd do it again in a minute! I didn't get any special offers.

Same technologies as Comcast & FiOS, just a different service area (Midwest).

I made the switch about a year ago and never looked-back -- given that Charter is in bankruptcy, I wouldn't expect any freebies/deals from them...

Just got our FiOS installed 3 days ago. Did the internet/phone and cable deal w/ the free mini laptop.
DH called Comcast last week to see how much he was paying a month. (yeah, he pay's attention to the bills allright:rotfl2:) Our triple play contract had expired and we were paying over 200$ a month. He told them he was going to switch to FiOs and they laughed and said, "oh, you'll be back"
Our FiOS was intalled this week. The serviceman showed up and no fiber optic cable had been dropped. DH grumbled abit about taking off work and w/in the hour had the team out trenching the line from the road (which is a LONG way)
He showed us how to use the remote and most of the features in the end. He was very nice and professional. I told him he just gave us "marriage therapy" you know lessons about the tv remote control which can be stressful at times. He laughed.
Anyway...We get so many more channels and many more HD channels. Comcast had been switching and taking away channels w/ no price reduction.
We like it. No problems w/ email because we've got yahoo accounts so no changes needed. Also was able to keep our phone number. The mini promo is for a free notebook. But you still pay shipping and taxes after having the service 60 days. No problem there, I'll keep the mini for a xmas gift for DS12.
BTW- when DH returned our comcast equipment the girl stated her computer was down and unable to give a reciept. Um ...I don't think so.... DH WAITED until she was able to provide a reciept for the equipment. Comcast also called about our recent disconnection, offering all these deals..No thanks. I'll keep the FiOS w/ all the extra channels and features. It's about time Comcast had some competition around here.
Good Luck w/ your decision.

p.s. we didn't call and actually cancel the Comcast until after the FiOS install was completed. That way DH wasn't w/out his precious internet! Good Lord what did we do prior to high speed internet? LOL

We got rid of Comcast a few years ago. Customer service was impossible to reach - always a busy signal.

Verizon cost less, offered more. We have cell, home phone, internet & TV with them so everything is on one paperless bill. I love it!

Tech support is good as well. We had some trouble with the new HD box when we got an LCD but they talked me through it & got it fixed.

One big problem Verizon had here when we first got it was they didn't show up when they were supposed to, which really set me off. Hopefully they've improved in that area but I don't know for sure. Customer service is ok, not great, but not as bad as some companies.

Comcast/Cablevision did the same thing. After years of me being a faithful customer NOW they are offering the good deals. I declined and last week I had a representative at my door offering to buy out my Verizon Fios contract and an even better deal on Comcast/Cablevision.

Even if I wanted to switch back (which I don't) my husband won't let me. He LOVES ESPN University which is only available through Verizon.
