They are not doing hand stamps any more. But they are requiring finger scans for ALL tickets now. This changed June 20. So be prepared. They will also be having cast members standing there having you sign your ticket even though there isn't a space for you to do this.

If you are on a package and have the room key/tickets do you still have to use the scanners? We will have the park hopper option.

Yes, everyone 10 or older has to use the finger scanner.

When we went this last May 15 thru 21st, they were requiring the finger scan. Since we did not have a annual pass I was not aware of this and placed my fingers in thinking the CM was just confused. They made no mention then that we all now had to use this system. When we went to another park that day I was not sure which hand I had used and could not get it to work using either hand. My wifes never worked(once it did) and through the week mine worked only 2 or three times. One day at the MK they had turned the finger scans around and were just handstamping hands. Due to this system being installed prior to the bugs being worked out the lines were very long on a couple of occasions(EPCOT and AK) in particular. At first we thought it was security holding things up but as we got closer to the gates we realized it was other guest having problems with the finger scans also. Hopefully they get this system working better when we go back this Nov/Dec..smjj

The change requiring everyone to use the finger scan started June 20. If you had the Magic your Way tickets they have always required the finger scan.

Does this mean you can't use your leftover days on Park Hoppers? We have a few days left on ours from our last trip. We bought them with the understanding they'd be good forever-- or at least until we go back in 2006.

Thanks,
Julie

My understanding is that now even those tickets require a finger scan. They are good forever, it is just now they will be assigned to one person once the finger scan is done.

Adding to my prior post, they should indicate the use of one hand. After I entered my post above, I got to thinking. I can't remember what hand I used the last time. Never did anyone tell me which hand to use. Being a lefty, I guess I will use it, hopefully I won't forget this when I go down later this year..LOL....smjj

You are right. They don't stress that enough but I think once people get used to it they will always use the same hand.

We didnt have any trouble doing the finger scan when we were there. The scanner was always on my right, so I used my right hand every time. We thought it was pretty cool....yeah I know, we are easily amused lol

What is the point of signing your ticket?

It's not going to affect the scanners, and if they had to go to the point of ID, the ID will speak for itself. Signing it sounds pointless to me and only another thing to slow the process.

Seems to me they've made it quicker to exit the park and longer to enter.

Hope they worked out the bugs. On our last trip the first 9 days of June it seemed to take forever for some people to get admitted. Either the machine was malfunctioning or the people were. LOL

Same thing in March. I was at my limit trying to get into the park. After about 3 tries the CM's just need to pull them through. They need to have the system set up in a "double" zone process.

Zone 1: slide in card and read fingers. If it doesnt work after 2 tries maybe, send them through to Zone 2 where another CM waits to check ID. This keeps the jam from being at the scanners. If you get through Zone 1 you just enter.

Gee this is my third reply to this post but I just thought of something else reading thru these. If your card saves a scan of your fingers and stores it for re-entry that day, what about the next day or next month or year. Does it have a date stamp to show you are using another day?? As an example we last used the scan this May. Now we will not being using it again until Nov. of this year. Will it try and save another scan of my fingers or use the last one from May? If it does, how does the scan know I am entering the park for the first time that day or re-entering a park for that day? I guess I am just a nerd but this stuff is interesting to me. I am sure this all is encoded on the mag strip but how do they fit the scan into all of this with dates and such??....smjj

When we were there in May, my DH and I both had tickets - he had a hopper and I had an AP. We wanted to see if these finger scans really worked and out tickets looked very similar. We switched at the gate to see and sure enough - we both slid the cards in, used the finger scan and were in the park :confused3 We laughed at how technology isn't always as good as a CM just checking the ticket. By the way, we switched back the right way the next day and still nothing :earseek:

The computer keeps track of it. It will know you are entering for a second time the same day and not take a day off. The scan of your fingers will remain on file for your next trip.

That's what I was wondering also. Do you think that maybe they turned of the scan machines that day and just let you in because the crowds were heavy?

I will probably try to do this conciously on my next trip to see if this a common thing.
