I had what I thought was a great plan to watch all of the Disney/Pixar animated movies before we go back to Disney. I cleared out my Netflix queue and started adding every movie we didn't have, in chronological order. I hit a snag almost immediately, though. The following movies aren't available on Netflix:

Alice in Wonderland
Cinderella
Fantasia
Fantasia 2000 (Is this just a remastering? I never did figure that out...)
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (We have this, but it's broken)
The Lion King (Same as Snow White)

They're also not available at Blockbuster Online, or in local Blockbusters. I will check our 48 Hours, but the selection there has always been dismal.

I DID see a few copies on Ebay, but I'm not sure I want to spend the money to OWN the movies with my kids already at 9 and 12 - how much longer will I really get them to sit and watch with me?

Any suggestions for where to rent these?

I was just able to pull up Cinderella on my blockbuster site.

After checking, I was able to add all of them to my queue, so I don't understand why you couldn't.

Try the library, or even yard sales/thrift shops for VHS versions. Perhaps you could borrow copies from friends, family, neighbors, or even if you are in a playgroup.

Wanted to add, that if you haven't seen Cinderella III Twist in Time, it is sure worth a watch...especially w/the Step sisters and Mother in the parks.

Oh! You're right! I only checked Snow White on Blockbuster. Once I saw it was doing the same thing as Netflix, I didn't go through the rest of the list. But Cinderella is there - I will have to go through and check each of the rest.

On Netflix, I was able to save them to my queue, but with an availability of "Unknown". At least on Netflix, saving a movie to your queue and adding one are not the same thing - I can save Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince to my queue, too, but I won't get it, since it's not even out yet! ;) So when I saw that Snow White was listed as "Save Q" while everything else that came up when I search was listed "Add Q" I thought that also meant that Snow White was listed but not available.

I will double check all of the other movies, thanks.

And Perditamarie, good idea on the library! Didn't even think of that - duh! I mostly didn't add the sequels, but if you say Cinderella 3 is good, I'll grab that, too. Thanks!

Last time I checked, Beauty and the Beast was also unavailable at all these sources, and also at ALL our local libraries. The only way I can get around this is to borrow/rent VHS . . . and we haven't owned a VCR in about 6 years! I'm curious to see if anyone else has a solution to this. I mean, you'd think Disney would WANT kids to see all the movies!

Snow White is being re-released to DVD this fall, so if you can wait about 8 months, you'll be able to rent or buy it later this year.

My girls are 9 & 12 and adore Disney movies....we watch them together regularly and I buy the new ones as they are released. You might be surprised at how much use you get out of them if you buy them. In fact, my DD21 still watches her favorites too. :)

If you want to buy...

In your order, check amazon's Sellers by putting the following series of numbers/letters into the search field on amazon for each movie.

Hmm...disneydvd is supposed to have a place to go for replacement discs if you scratch one (for 6.95), but it's going in a loop when I click the link to get to the page about it. Wanted to help with the broken/not working discs, but I guess I can't!

And the library is where we get all of the old movies like that...we have access to 3 separate library systems, though...very lucky here.

Check www.half.com. My DD wanted Alice in Wonderland last month, and that was the only place that had a copy.

Fantasia 2000 (Is this just a remastering? I never did figure that out...)

No, Fantasia 2000 was a separate and NEW film. Back in the 40's when Walt first released the original Fantasia, his hope was to be able to re-release it in future years with new segments added to it. When the original release ended and it wasn't as financially viable as they'd hoped, that plan was shelved. Fantasia didn't actually provide profits for the studio until it's 2nd or 3rd general re-release in the late 60's or early 70's. Then in the late 90's Walt's nephew Roy decided it was time to make good on Walt's concept and they put together a new film, with all new segments. The only original segment from Fantasia to be used in Fantasia 2000 is the classic "Sorcerer's Apprentice" sequence with Mickey. When it was released in 2000, it was released in both standard theatres and IMAX. It was incredible to see in IMAX.

I sold some baby stuff at our baby resale shop. I was shocked at the amount of Disney movies that were there for sale. You might want to check there...

Wow! Everyone has had great ideas, but that's especially cool - my Snow White disk is snapped right in half. Thanks!

Also, cool on Fantasia 2000. I was always confused because of the Sorceror Mickey bit, so I'll definitely have to find it now. Thanks for 'splainin', stopher1.

You're right about kids not outgrowing Disney, pixiewings71 - after I, I'm the one filling up my queue with Disney movies, and I'm 32. :rotfl:

The idea about waiting eight months won't work, though, cause I wanted to watch them before we leave and I only have four months to our trip!

As usual, the DIS to the rescue! I'll send away for Snow White and get started on my list!

I never knew this, THANKS!!

Our local used bookstore sells used Disney VHS movies all the time. My mom got Fantasia, 2 months ago in great condition, for $3!!!

I asked the lady at the Disney Store about movies that are in the vault. She said a lot of times Barnes and Nobles and other book and music stores will still carry them even if they are not suppose to. I got lucky and found Cinderella at wal-mart the other day! It was in the wrong place!!!:cool1:
