Herein are some of the better shots taken at the Finding Nemo musical at the Animal Kingdom. All shots have been heavily post-processed. FWIW, I thought the show was excellent. Almost worth the wait ;-)

Those are beautiful shots!

Thanks! Of course you're not seeing the numerous "not so great" shots.... But I am quite pleased with the photo of Gill and his puppeteer.

I also set the camera down for large portions of the show, because I have found that photographing an event and enjoying an event are two mutually exclusive activities. :santa:

So is still photography officially allowed now? I'm seeing more shots from the musical lately, have they dropped that restriction from the preshow spiel?

I cannot say that I specifically recall hearing that still photography was permitted, but I can say with all honesty that it wasn't prohibited either or else I would not have these pics. Unless I missed that part (and I doubt it). I was pretty obvious with the "big white lens" and no one said a thing. I'm sure that flash photography was prohibited, simply because it is so obnoxious for everyone else.

I was at the show on Thursday. They clearly said before the show that no video lights or flash photography was allowed. A few minutes later, they said that no video taping or photography was allowed.

When I was there in December, they had attack squads that swarmed whenever anyone so much as lifted a camera. This time, I saw people happily shooting away throughout the show. I suspect that they now allow non-flash photography and that the second warning was a holdover that they haven't re-recorded.

Here are a few of my shots of the show. I was sitting left of center, about 4 or 5 rows back. I was shooting with my 1DM2 and a 70-200 f/2.8 lens.

Great shots, Mark! Those are much better than I figure I could get, that's for sure.

On another note, am I the only one here who thinks that this show looks, well, for lack of a better word, dare I say.... stupid? How is the show, actually? It seems silly that it is a bunch of people with puppets on poles. I don't think I will waste my time in it unless there is no line. It does make for some wonderfully colorful photos though. That is a plus!

I thought that the costumes and action work really well in the show. Still, I'm not a big fan of the show. The music is weak. They try to cram too much story into too little time. They basically retell the entire Nemo story in 30 minutes. I prefer the FotLK where is just a fun show that alludes to a lot of the Lion King stuff.

Matthew, Thanks for sharing those! My youngest DS and I saw the show in July. The first day we tried to see it, the line was too long. We went back another day and I was so glad we did! For anyone that hasn't seen it, this is a wonderful show!!!:goodvibes
I can hardly wait for my 2 grandkids to see it in 31 days!!!:)

Well, I'm sure I will see it in November when we go. The other thing I was thinking about was that many times I have thought that something would be bad/boring at Disney, but they usually prove me wrong. I thought that The Land would be just about the most boring thing going, but they find a way to make it very interesting. I thought the same about the Imagination/Figment ride (whatever that's called) and I found myself enjoying it. That was before they changed it. Now, it isn't as cool for some reason.

Tuffcookie: You're welcome. Have fun a month from now. Be sure to show the kids these pictures beforehand so that they see/understand how the puppeteers are operating the Disney characters in the show.

MarkBarbieri: Awesome photos! I love the Dory shot. Do you recall if you used Evaluative metering? I did, and now I'm thinking that I should have thought ahead and used Center-weighted.

FWIW, I (and the wife and her two sisters) loved the show.

Part of it may also have to do with the fact that I was forced to put the camera down when we saw it (strictly no photography then), so I was able to concentrate on the show. Snapping away photos makes it much more difficult (for me, at least) to concentrate on the show, and overall enjoyment can easily go down.

As for the puppeteers, this is no different that the Lion King Broadway show - some of the same people were involved (same puppet designer?). If you get hung up on that, then yes, you won't enjoy it, but it actually works fairly well, I thought.

I'm pretty sure that I was using spot metering. If I had it to do again, I'd use partial.

AWESOME pictures !!!! :thumbsup2 I especially love these two. Thanks for sharing them , we haven't seen this show yet and I can't wait. I have seen so many lovely photos of it I just can't wait to see it in person.
