I haven't posted on here in quite some time...but with my mom and I heading to Disneyland in a couple weeks for the Tinker Bell 1/2 Marathon Weekend...I've decided it's time to get back on the disboards! :thumbsup2

My mom and I signed up for the Tinkerbell 1/2 marathon several months ago. Shortly after I completed my third 1/2 marathon last May, I was very motivated to try another! On top of that, I also decided I would sign up for the Neverland 5K the night before! Upon signing up, I was excited to lead my mom on a journey to complete her first 1/2.

All that changed in June when I became pregnant! My husband and I had been trying off and on for years, so it was a big surprise, but a welcome one! I stopped running once I found out mostly because I was just too exhausted to do much of anything. And to be honest, my focus completely changed from running to the new life I was carrying.

Fast forward to my almost 11 week appointment when we found out the baby had stopped growing weeks beforehand, and a miscarriage was inevitable. I spent the next several weeks very depressed...and just couldn't get back into exercise and running no matter how hard I tried.

Then, in November, I got pregnant again only to lose the baby a few days after I found out. At this point, it had become a mission to get pregnant yet again...and I had lost sight of all my running goals!

Now, here I am, a little under 3 weeks until race weekend, and I've only run 3 miles once in the last 2 months! :scared1:

I am kind of mad at myself for putting my life on hold. Now there is no way I can do the 1/2!

I still plan on doing the 5K and I'm excited about that...but I'm trying really hard to stay motivated on a consistent basis!

Sorry for such a long post, but I just had to get this off my chest. If you have any tips for getting motivated...or have been through a similar situation, please feel free to comment :)

You've been through a lot; be kind to yourself and get back to things as they feel right to you.

About a year and a half ago I did a 5K locally. I had been in a car accident a few months before that and there wasn't much I could do to get ready and train. I would up walking/jogging it. It took me about 45 minutes. Pretty sad. And everytime I jogged there was this click in my left ear on the offbeat of my pace. Really bizarre.

Anyway, just wanted to send some good thoughts to you. :flower3:

 i am so sorry for your loss and giving yourself the time you need to heal is very reasonable and healthy, please don't feel bad for that!

I know there are training threads on the Events/competition sub-forum you'll find at the top of the page, if you are looking for training motivation...if you are looking for a group for more (i.e. weight loss/maintain, accountability) please join us in the Biggest Loser challenge, you can join in anytime!

have fun at the 5k, i know you'll face a twang of disappointment facing the 1/2 marathon event there, but there will be opportunities ahead

Hello there!

Grief can be a very internal and isolating process. The other posters here are exactly right to be kind to yourself. Maybe if you focus on your exercise time as working to make yourself as healthy as possible for your next pregnancy it will help motivate you to put some energy into getting yourself back on track. Sometimes when I walk/run I focus on a mantra of a word or a short prayer. Othertimes I just let my mind blank out although I know at some level it is mulling over issues. Grief is not a mapped race and everyone deals with it in very individual ways. Maybe you can send out some well wishes to marathon runners and be there with them in spirit!

Peace and health to you in 2012!
