Hi all,

I just wanted to find out the best way to get discounts for DL area, accom, food ect. I am aware of the OG website with vouchers and very vaguely familiar with the APs but looking for more ideas for my poor Dad who is paying for us all to go :goodvibes

Quick run down, 6 Adults, 2 kids and 2 babies doing 5nts DL 3 nts Vegas and 4 nts HI in Sept/Oct. Nothing has yet been booked but it won't be far off getting flights locked in.

TIA! :)

Fixed :headache:

There is the Entertainment Book. There is a card in the book which can be used to get discounts at some hotels (like HoJo's). There are Australian Entertainment Books, I have the Gold Coast one, but I have had the Hawaiian one before and the card from the Australian one can be used at HoJo's for their discount rate (I believe there is a page on their website that states the different dates that rate is available).
Another Discount on accommodation that I believe is still available is a 15% discount at HoJo for Disboard members.

There are also many printable coupon websites (coupon cabin.com is one, but if you google printable coupons, many websites will come up), they have discounts for shopping and also many restaurants.

If you have an NRMA or RACQ/V etc card, on the back of that it has the AAA symbol. This can be used at many places in the US for AAA discounts, including accommodation or even tours. We went on a couple of Grayline tours out of Anaheim and presented our RACQ card and received the AAA discount on all of the tours we did. When looking online at a resort, if there is an area to enter the AAA code, you enter the three digit code that is near the AAA for our club number.

Many of the chain restaurants, if you join their restaurant online you will get a coupon for some sort of discount whilst in the US.

Many shopping centres have discount books available, if you visit their websites online before you go, you can often find ways to register for a coupon book and print it up and take it along with you.

The AP is great for Disneyland discounts, on food, merchandise and accommodation, but you can often get specials on accommodation that are better than the AP rate anyway. If you are not going for long and you don't have a very large group, the AP may not be the best option (just one in your group needs to buy it for the discounts). It's something that you need to do some calculations on to see if the card will pay for itself or not.

If I think of any others I will let you know.

Just noticed you said you were going to Hawaii too :cool1: (that's exciting too). Anyway, there are lots of discounts available for Hawaii too.

There are a few coupon books in Hawaii. Up and down Kalakaua Ave, they have little newspaper and brochure stand things on the sidewalk (not with people handing them out, just the little stands). They have free coupon books in them. The books come out every week I think, or it may be every month. Anyway, they have some good coupons for restaurants and activities. We use the Benihana one all the time, there is a 10% off coupon in there for that restaurant.

Don't buy groceries from the ABC stores as they are expensive. There is a supermarket on Kuhio Ave (which is one block back from the beach) called the Food Pantry, it is much cheaper than the ABC stores. There is also a supermarket at Ala Moana shopping centre, there is a big Longs Drugs, which is a cross between a pharmacy and a supermarket or a supermarket down on the lower ground floor too. There is also a Walmart behind Ala Moana shopping centre which has

If you go shopping remember the coupon books. If you go to the outlets (which are not great, you'd be better doing that on the mainland), the remember to register before you go on their website and print out the coupon to get your coupon book from the info kiosk at the outlet mall.

That's all I can think of right now.

Thanks aussietravellers, some great tips and ideas to get me looking.

Yeah I fixed it, I didn't notice either until it was pointed out. :)

re: your vegas stay

i found that contacting the guest services manager via email directly, and complimenting them on their handling of someone else's complaint comment on trip advisor, then requesting a quote for your stay, specifying room type, amt of rooms etc is the best way to get their best available rate...

when we went, we got a 2 x room suite at tropicana for $47.99/night + tax for most nights. it increased to $99.99+tax for 2 nights over the weekend, but still... we stayed in vegas for 5 nights for less than $250 total per room, or $500.00 for our huge 2 x room suite. i felt that was an absolute bargain... especially as their website was quoting a 'holiday special' and AAA discounted rates of between $179-$205/night + tax.

my suggestion: make friends with the guest services manager. or if you're interested in the tropicana, i'd be happy to pass along their manager's name... she was wonderful for us!

biggest discount for Vegas is don't stay Fri-Sat night. People go to Vegas for the weekend, so Sun-Thurs stays are cheap, as long as you leave by Friday.
Only problem with no weekend would be if you wanted to go to any matinee shows, most of them are only on the weekend.

Last couple of times I've gone to Vegas it's been a timeshare rental for a week - very very very cheap, about $500AU for 7 nights next door to Planet Hollywood for a 2 bedroom apartment that sleeps 8.
