Back in December, I was planning out an Aulani trip for a weekend in July. I successfully reserved a single Friday night but had to waitlist for Saturday.

FFWD to today and my waitlist still hadn't come through (no rush, not panicking). When I search the single Saturday night, it's still not showing availability. HOWEVER, if I include Friday night in my search, then it will show only 1 night of my search available... Saturday night. Yes, it's the same room category. I was able to successfully reserve it, and I now have the Friday and Saturday night I was hoping for.

Odd. Has anyone else noticed this?

Oh, that's not good. I haven't run across that personally though.

Never. But from now on I’ll be sure to search a few ways.

Yes, I had a similar experience. I decided on a fairly last-minute 2019 Thanksgiving trip only last September, so not surprisingly only SSR had availability for 2 bedrooms and only for Preferred. I successfully booked Wed. - Fri. and waitlisted for Saturday. I kept checking every few days, both standalone Saturday and whole trip duration in case other resorts had availability. To my surprise, one night, my search for Wed. - Sun. returned partial night available for 2 bedroom Preferred and it was Saturday night!! I immediately booked and called MS the next day to link the two ressies. My guess is that they added inventory to the system and I was very lucky to be right there with my search that night. I would have thought that available inventory would immediately be used to fulfill waitlist first before becoming available to new searches. Apparently not, because I had been on the waitlist all along but never not get notified Saturday night was available.
