Finding a TS while at Epcot but not in Epcot

I am trying to find a ts restaurant for dinner for the day I am spending at Epcot. I was looking for a character meal, but Garden Grill's menu is not to my family's liking. We're not into catfish. They don't seem to have too much of a selection.

Is there a table service restaurant at one of the resorts that would be easy to get to. I don't have the park hopper so we can't go to another park for dinner and then back to Epcot.

I was looking at LeCellier because we definitely like steaks, but we're not into all those sauces. We they cook a steak without all the sauces? Does any restaurant anywhere on Disney property have a regular everyday salad where you can order italian or even french dressing. My 6 year old nephew is a salad freak, but he won't eat the dressings that they have listed. He loves italian dressing and that's it.

Coral reef would be fun, but the entrees aren't the type of fish we would eat. I never tasted salmon, but we're not daring. I am trying to get a recent opinion on this place. There are so many bad reviews that it's hard to decide. This seems to be a place that cooks with a lot of sauces on their steaks, et cetera.

Is it easy to get to the contemporary from Epcot? I was thinking about going to Chef Mickey or maybe try Concourse Steakhouse. I would love to get a good steak while in Disney, but not with a sauce on it. Just a plain grilled steak with just the juices that come out of it. Is Chef Mickey good? I might just play it safe and go to another character meal. My nephew would like it.

Another question concerning Chef Mickey, what is a good time to eat there since I would want to eat dinner and then return to Epcot for the rest of the evening. Is Chef Mickey entertaining for the kids.

I am having a hard time deciding on what restaurants. I have the dining plan, but I am having trouble picking restaurants. I heard Boma is good, but I don't seem to care for that style of food. I guess I am just too picky.

Thanks again. First time on Disney property so I guess that is why it's hard to pick restaurants. International Drive seems to have so many restaurants that the choices are easier to make. If you want a steak but cheap there's Ponderosa. The steak I had there was good and the price was great.

I am sure Le Cellier would make any steak without sauce. I ate there last year and don't even recall a sauce?

If you are in the Epcot area and want a TS with real standard America food, you might want to considering going to the Boardwalk (short boat ride, long walk) and trying either ESPN Zone or Big River Grille.

IMO, getting to Chef Mickeys would take a while (maybe 30 minutes, depending on connections). You'd have to walk to the front of Epcot to catch the monorail to the TTC, then transfer to the resort monorail, then ride the entire resort monorail loop (stopping at Poly, GF and MK before getting to CR). Some consider the monorail an attraction in itself, so the ride might be fun. Riding the monorail will give you the opportunity to check out some of the resorts too. I haven't been to Chef Mickey's in years - but kids seem to love it. Also, right next door is Concourse Steakhouse which has pretty standard American food.

Good luck with your decision.

I think any restaurant would omit the sauce on a steak. I'm not sure what type of sauces you are talking about. Do you mean seasoning too, like something the steak is marinated in and cooked with, or a "sauce" that is on top of the steak when it is served?

Yachtsman steakhouse is in the YC and within walking distance from Epcots IG. It's a very, very good steakhouse. I'm not sure about the Italian and french dressing thing there though. I don't recall seeing house salads with Italian or french dressing anywhere at Disney for that matter. I know they have good ceasar salads.

There is a clam bake buffet at the BC that is really good too. They have other things bedsides seafood too. The Boardwalk has Flying Fish-very, very good food. Also, ESPN, Spoodles and Big River. You can look at their menus and decide if they have things that would make your group happy.

I agree that the trip to Chef Mickey's would take about 30 minutes. It's a pleasant ride though. The Concourse steakhouse is pretty good, but not as good as Yachtsman. I don't know about the sauce thing though. I have never eaten at Ponderosa, so I don't know if it's similar. Is Ponderosa like an Outback or Ruth C steakhouse?

If your group is really that picky you may have a hard time picking restaurants-good luck. :)

We don't eat the catfish at Garden Grill, but there is plenty of other food there. It is served family style, and they will bring you more of anything you'd like.

Beaches and Cream at Beach club counts as a TS but has food more like a CS (except for the desserts!). It has burgers, chicken sandwiches, etc. Spoodles at Boardwald is easy to get to.

We like Rose and Crown at Epcot.

Chef Mickey's is very entertaining, good food, good desserts, etc. It is about a 30 minute ride on the monorail from Epcot. Easy to do, just more leaving of the park than the "Epcot area resorts."

Any restaurant will serve a steak with sauce on the side or eliminated. Seasonings that are placed on before cooking are harder to eliminate, but can be done if you ask. Most restaurants have a special salad dressing....could you bring a small container of dressing for MR. Picky? McDonald's sells single serving dressings with their salads...or your grocery may have small containers. Then order a salad with no dressing.

Are you on the dinning plan? If not consider Gulliver's at the Swan. It is a combination buffet and menu restaurant so you can pretty much get a variety of things. It is not included on the dinning plan so it is usually less crowded and easier to get an ADR for. The characters on Friday and Monday are Rafiki and Timon these characters are not available in any other character meals. The rest of the week it is Goofy and Pluto. We went in December and my kids loved it. The Swan is close to Epcot so you could go back to the park after you eat with out park hoping. Here is a link with the menu

we just loved chef mickey, and with three kids to keep entertained, thats not easy!!
food was very good, service was excellent, so good, we are going back this trip!!
do try cm, it really is worth the effort

You can buy a box of Italian dressing packets (I believe Kraft) at the store and then take on or two with you each day. You can always order a salad with no dressing and add your own. :)

I would think about Garden Grill again. There is more than catfish. They have flank steak and turkey too.

If you are in EPCOT and want to stay in EPCOT after dinner, I would try the Garden Grill, it's pretty simple home-style food. Catfish is just a small part of the dinner.

If you want to leave EPCOT, here's one more vote for going to a Boardwalk restaurant. You can walk or take a boat from the back entrance -- the International Gateway -- to the Boardwalk retaurant/shopping area. The ESPN restaurant gets good reviews for its all-American food.

One more thing, if you like other types of fish, try salmon. Even people who don't like fish sometimes like salmon.

to poster above .. Ponderosa is like a Golden Corral or Sizzler.. the type place with the big buffets. Some call this type a family style steak house.

now to the OP..

Disney is very accomodating as far as removing sauces. Many people do not like them. There is a review above where a man got the bbq sauce at LeCellier on the side.

As far as a steak, I recommend Yachtsman Steakhouse to everyone, but it is 2 TS on the dining plan. Le Cellier is also very good and only 1 TS. Just ask for the steak the way you want it. Trust me, you are not alone.

If you are looking for seafood, try looking at the menus at Flying Fish and the Cape May Cafe Clambake at the BC. Both of these would be an easy walk from Epcot.

You may want to consider Yacht Club Galley. They have a wide menu and the food is not very fancy. It is a little further, but only a few minutes. You could take the boat if you do not want to walk.

You can take the monorail over to the Contemporary, but this will eat up a lot of time. If you want to try Chef Mickey's or Concourse,, I would do this another day. Le Cellier is much better then Concourse, IMHO anyway.

Transportation can take WAY longer than you might anticipate ---- I'd save the restaurants in the Contemporary for a day when you're in the MK (a 10 minute walk to the CR) or a non-park day.

The Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club resort has a character breakfast. It is a very short walk from the international gateway in EPCOT. It is one TS on the dining plan. You can make try to get the last seating for a late breakfast/early lunch.

Take the monorail and go to Chef Mickeys.

If it were me I'd take the boat and go to one of the Boardwalk area restraurants.

It sounds like Chef Mickey's may be the best for your group though. Just make sure you go early enough so you can go back to Epcot.
