Got a question for everyone...

I've got a few trips coming up later this year,
well besides Disney,
How do you find a place to run that's a good/safe run?

Here's an example...

Last June we went to Pittsburgh to visit some friends,
we stayed in a Holiday Inn, I went running,
and was told by the convenience store clerk that
it was not a good idea to run in this neighborhood.
It was a bit sketchy of a place - I finished that run,
but then skipped the last day.

This year we'll be going to Pitt. again and probably
staying with our friends in Squirrel Hill. They're not
runners and the neighborhood is really nice, but how
can I find a good run?

I've got a few other short vacation/weekend trips that
I'll need to find a place to run.

So where do you run when your away from home?

I would ask the hotel people, also look for a gym or a YMCA that might be near that you could use. I also have stayed at hotels with a decent workout room and used there treadmills. Just be sure if you do go outside to bring your cell with you, just in case of an emergency.

Asking at the hotel is a good idea. You can also check with anyone on the DIS who lives in that area for a good running spot. As for the Squirrel Hill run, PM Debra (Deekaypee) as she lives right in that area. You may have a running partner!!!

I just ask the front desk and they have been helpful. Other times I will find a local universtiy and run around the campus a few times. If you know before hand, you might look online for a local running club and they would know the best spots as well.

Google and find some of the running stores nearby and then call and ask. Dh does this and he is often invited to join a local running group or at least told when they run so that he knows when other runners will be out.

Also check to see if there are any routes listed on the USTAF website.

Thanks everyone for the replies!
Your suggestions are great!

I'd also recommend checking out posted running routes on www.mapmyrun.com. I found a great route to run in Perth, AU over New Year's.

I'll alert Hope who used to live in Pittsburgh, she may be able to help you.

Hope here! Unfortunately, I'm not that familiar with Squirrel Hill, other then knowing it is a very nice area. The best areas I knew of were at The Point and there's a river trail that runs up the Mon.

favoriterun.com is another site that allows people to map the favorite runs in their local area.

I just checked it and there are 425 runs listed for pittsburgh.

Thanks!:grouphug:

I'm so excited to find some runs and stay on track!
The Goofy will be here in no time:bitelip:
