Finding a mural artist???

Hello!!

Does anyone know how you would go about finding mural artists that are in your area???? We are building a new home and I need to find someone to paint some Disney characters in my kids bedrooms.

I have no idea about local listings because I live in a small town. Here though, I had a friend who wanted a muriel in her daughter's room and she went to the local schools and churchs and actually found a wonderful artist.

I have a very talented friend, so I didn't have to look too far. But, in this area students of The Savannah College of Art and Design often do freelance work. Is there an art school in your area?

Ahh, that would be a copyright violation as Disney owns the rights to Disney characters. So, don't expect to find mural artists advertising that they'll do licensed characters for you.

Both my sister and my SIL do murals. They tend to get business mostly word of mouth, but they also leave business cards different places, like hair salons, pediatricians, etc., in exchange for doing murals at these places.

I'd check at the art schools in your area. My neighbor found someone that way and did a wonderful job!

I had a huge comic strip style Spiderman mural painted on my twins' bedroom wall.

I put an ad up on craigslist detailing exactly what I wanted and I had several artists contact me.

I ended up going with a young guy who was a recent college (art)graduate. He quoted a reasonable price and did an awesome job.

We receive a mailer about once every month or so that has advertisements for local businesses and coupons, etc.
the artist who painted murals in my home advertises in that mailer and I know he has gotten quite a bit of business that way. Most of his biz is word-of-mouth.
Do you get to use a decorator for choosing the colors, etc for your home? When we built a few years ago the decorator had LOTS of referral cards for such people.

Contact all the paint stores, esp the small private owned ones (not Big Box like Home Depot)

Most of these have the business cards of painters, including those who do the special effects and murals.
