I planned to order something from idonme.com or mypreciouskid.com, but my trip planning time has just passed me by. I am out of time and need to find something locally.

We live in a busy suburb of Pittsburgh, so I have access to most of the big chains. I would like to find something that will work for both of my children, who are 2.5 and almost 4. My kids wear crocs, so I don't think a little luggage tag (like some put on sneakers) would work. If I could find a tear-away lanyard, I would do that.

I am out of ideas (burnt out planning)... and suggestions?

My co-worker (who is checking in the day after we check out) made both her dd and my ds little necklaces with letter and number beads. I believe she bought all the supplies at Michael's, but probably any craft supply store would carry them. It's a fairly long ball chain, breakeable if tugged on pretty hard, and she strung on beads that spell out our hotel and cell phone numbers. Now all the kids have to learn if we're seperated is to find a CM (we're teaching our ds that all of Mickey's friends have a white badge with the castle on it) and pull out the necklace from under their shirt. I thought it was ingenious, and really cute to boot!

Here's what I do to ID my kids -- dd8 & ds9 -- I get them a metal tag like the ones used for dog collars. You can buy them at PetSmart or PetCo, but I've also seen them at WalMart much cheaper. Basically, they're a metal ID engraved by a machine while you wait. Costs around $5 or so and they come in a variety of colors and styles. You can have whatever information you wish engraved on them and I have the child's first name only, along with both of our cells numbers and home number. I used to safety pin them on the kids but found they liked them on a chain around their neck also. Just get one long enough not to choke but not too long to be a hazard. My dd loves her heart-shaped one on a gold chain. DS likes his red-white-blue flag style on a chain. The above poster's idea of a bead necklace sounds charming, but time consuming. The "dog tags" are much quicker.

My son has a small key chain like the ones you carry easter or christmas pictures in it. It has a little card in it that has his name and my cell, home, work and other information. Every morning we clip it to his pants belt loop and he knows to show it to those who work in a store or at a ride if I get lost.

When my DD goes on field trips with her preschool, they stick a label on the back of her shirt with her first name and the cell phone number of the teacher in charge.

our local runners shop carries id on me - of course I learned this after I orrdered on line and paid shipping
