Thought I post a little note to let those who care know that things are looking better financially for DH & I this month. By the end of May I will have submitted a payment to all but two accounts (the two I am disputing their practices of collection) and medical bills from DD's broken wrist from the beginning of this year. (I wanted to pay them immediately, but it happened at the same time of DH's injury).
I spent the past few days organizing a new spreadsheet with estimated income and the amount of our regular payments for the month, then made a calendar on another sheet to track when the payments are due. I used to write the payments on a regular calendar so I would know who to pay when but when income wasn't an issue for us I stopped. I knew what had to be paid when. Last July I started tracking all expenditures and was detailing every dollar coming and going from our checking account. I stopped filling in my form at the end of March when I was fed up and frustrated with it all.
Last night I went through all of the statements that had been piling up, the past due notices and repeated copies so I'm left only with the current bills. I had been keeping the bills orderly too until two-three months ago, too. I cleared a 4-inch stack of envelopes for shredding.
Yes, we still have balances and some accounts are still a payment behind. At least I have peace of mind that the creditors have received something and the phone won't be ringing quite as often by collectors. We lost more net monthly income than I originally thought, but surprisingly we have enough to pay our bills and eat - not much else. I've posted a few items on ebay in hopes of earning a little something - like a few days at the beach. DH is still seeking better employment, applying for a few positions each week. Now if only one of them would call for an interview and hire him. I'm considering finding something part-time on weekend mornings, but not sure what I want and if I can be away from DD (dependent upon DH's schedule) for a few hours.
