First, a little background/catch-up
5 years ago my son was hit by a car and badly broke both legs. Multiple surgeries on both that resulted in screws and plates in one and a rod from knee to ankle in the other.
Since he had no disability from the accident (Thank God!) he was able to join the army last year. Well, during basic he blew out his knee and they tried to discharge him saying it was pre-existing. The finally relented that it was not and they allowed him to stay.
After many months of physical therepy they finally sent him to the surgeon...which was today.
So, the first thing they have to do is remove the rod. This will also require a bone graft from the hip to the knee. Then, 3-4 months after that they can do the ACL surgery. He has been put on a waiting list and it doesn't look like the surgery will take place until August and more than likely not by the surgeon he saw today as it looks like he (the Dr.) is heading to Iraq.
I wish they would just ship him stateside (he is in Germany) and have the surgeries here. He'll have sme con (convelesent) leave which I think if he wants he can do here at home (which would be cool!).
So, that's the scoop. Please keep him in your prayers if you would and pray that they can start this whole thing before August!
Thanks!!!
P.S. the good side of it all is he is non-deployable so I don't have to worry about him off in Iraq where his unit is currently at
