Well it feels like forever since I've had a Disney trip to plan but the good news is we will be going back to the US and Canada for Christmas 2012 and then in late March/early April 2013 we plan to head to England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and France. I cannot wait to get planning like the anal crazy person I am :rotfl:.

We know where we want to go and the approx. order of things, now just to fine tune how long in each place and I'm hoping you guys can help me with that.

Firstly, can we just pause and do a few little happy dances for me :cool1::cool1::cool1:.

Some background:- Our family has made some big life decisions to make this happen. The main reason we haven't planned any trips since we got back from US in 2010 and Fiji in April 2011 is because we were due to begin building our DREAM home this coming February and as you all know - these things cost money. Plenty of money. And my DH has champagne tastes that is for sure :lmao:. After buying the block 2 years ago and waiting patiently for it to be ready to build on, after spending most of this year designing a custom home that would accommodate our family into the future along with my photography business - we have decided not to proceed with the build.

It was a tough decision in some ways but I knew in my heart it was absolutely the right decision. My heart felt lighter the minute we made the decision. All of the stress of how much the actual build would cost and how we would find the money just slipped away. It sounds strange to be so "happy" about not building our dream house but I am absolutely 100% ok with it. The costs were looking to skyrocket way beyond what we had anticipated and whilst it was something we could still afford I began to really question why we were doing this. Why were we going to place ourselves under financial pressure to build a new home? You see, we have a pretty wonderful home as it is. It has so much space for us, the layout we love, doesn't need much in the way of updating and I love my little studio. The main reason we were moving was because my husband was keen to move closer into the city and had talked about it for many years. Frankly I didn't care where we lived but respected his desire to move.

I had expressed my concerns about the cost as the quotes started to roll in but DH was keen to move forward and I knew we could afford to do so, albeit with a little more pressure on our finances so I said, sure. Then one day he was away on business and he emailed me and said "you know what, you are right, we have a wonderful life, why are we placing ourselves under pressure".

He then went on to say he had a couple of conditions though:-

1. He wanted a new kitchen (check, I can do that)

2. He wants to turn our formal living area into a rumpus/theatre room (check I can do that)

3. He wants to travel - CHECK CHECK CHECK CHECK CHECK.

He had me at hello of course :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:.

This has been happening over the past few months and we have talked about trips and where we would like to go and how exciting and how the world is our oyster - yadda yadda yadda.

The children and their schooling and extracurricular activities, along with my business are big stumbling blocks as to when we can go away but we have managed to hammer out our ideas and we think we have come up with some doable plans.

These are the plans that I hope to share with you along the way, ask your advice on and just generally get excited about everything with you all.

Are ready to chime in with your thoughts, advice, over the top opinions that I love (Queenie my love, I hope you are out there :)) and absolutely everything in between. I need you all because you make it much more fun, you give me confidence when I make my decisions and you are wonderful sounding boards.

Are you in?????

Shuttergirl.... Congratulations on making decisions....for you and the family. I think making the decision is always the hardest first step.

I'm always in for planning....;)

And Queenie is in the US. She'll be back....in a few weeks.

NOW....CELEBRATION TIME!! You have TRIPS to plan!

Congratulations shuttergirl, so exciting for you.
We did Canada and the US in 2008 and 2010, of course both involved a visit to Disney:cool1:both also involved skiing for 2 weeks in Canada:thumbsup2

We have just started building our dream home, I know what you mean about stress and budgets, we bought our land in February and we finally had site start last week:banana:But boy was this year a pain, selling our home (which we also loved and originally thought about renovating) but in the end we decided to build our dream home. Looking forward to it, but we have certainly second guessed ourselves along the way:confused:

So now for your plans disneyland or disneyworld?

Rough Trip Details so far:-

US and Canada Trip - December 2012

Fly out either on or a day or 2 before 9 Dec to take advantage of cheaper flights

Fly to Orlando - spend around 10 days doing WDW, KSC and WWOHP and outlet malls

Fly to NYC around 19 or 20 Dec to take advantage of all of the Christmas cheer and festivities in the lead up to Christmas

Train down to Washington on either 26 or 27 Dec for a few days. Not sure whether 3 days would be enough but that's what I'm thinking.

Train back to NYC on 30th Dec to spend a few more days and enjoy NYE - woohoo.

Either train or fly to Boston for 2 days then fly on to Canada

We plan to spend 1 night in Toronto, 1 night at Niagara Falls, 2 days in Montreal and then on to Quebec for at least 3 days.

Not sure whether it makes more sense to fly from Boston to Quebec and then train it down to Montreal and Toronto or whether to start in Toronto and work our way up. I would welcome some advice on that.

So that is the Dec 2012 trip in a nutshell.

Thanks PIO, I know you are going to play a big part in my planning, esp with the Canada and Boston portion. You know how much I value your help.

Gogo - how wonderful for you guys, you must be so excited that it's all starting to happen. I hope you didn't think I was raining on your parade. I know it's a wonderful thing to build your dream home. I am so very happy for you. I was just saying that we decided that we could be just as happy here. I can definitely see that if your existing home is not right that building is a fantastic option. Good luck with it all.

UK and France Trip

This will be our first foray to Europe and we have decided to start with the basics hence we are going with the UK and France. I would love to add Italy but I think we just won't have enough time on this trip.

The plan is to go just prior to Easter 2013 which is at the end of March.

Fly into London for 7-8 days
Train to Scotland for 3 days
Fly to Ireland for 5 days
Fly to France for 7-8 days, 5 in Paris with some day trips and 2-3 at DLP.

This trip still needs alot of fleshing out but we need to plan the US/Canada trip first, then focus on that one.

Sounds like a great trip! :thumbsup2

I like to travel in one direction; rather than doubling back too much.

Have you considered flying from Orlando to Washington first...and then spending one long stretch in NYC instead of going back and forth? From NYC, you could choose to go towards Boston, Niagara, Toronto, Montreal and Quebec (flying out of Quebec back to the West Coast and home)...or go from NYC to Niagara, Toronto, Montreal, Quebec, Boston and flying out of Boston.

I keep saying it.....drive. :thumbsup2

I did consider going to Washington after Orlando but we really want to be in NYC for the lead up to Christmas, I have tons of things I want to do. I've always dreamed of Christmas in NYC :lmao:.

I do like your idea though of flying straight from NYC to Canada, I guess it would be good if I talked to my travel agent about pricing for all of the flights that are required. I'm not sure how I would work the costings out myself with so many little flights. I think I read somewhere before that you bought an "airbus" ticket or something. How do you find out about those?

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: Congrats on your big decision that is so exciting for you all 2 trips to plan so happy for you all. :yay::yay:
I can totally understand your decision we only rent and are constantly told that the money we spend on travel could buy a house and we know that but we also know we only have a few more years with our kids at home and showing the world to them is more important to us than bricks and mortar right now.
:cheer2::cheer2:Happy planning :cheer2::cheer2:

I spoke to my travel agent. :rotfl:
I'm not sure if the airpasses exist anymore. The last time I used these were in 2003/2005???
And it seemed like the last time I criss-crossed across the US, it was better getting the best price for the route than sticking with one carrier.

Ms Shuttergirl! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

Will come back and read properly and post more soon (at work right now...) But now that you'll be in the North American winter and heading into Canada, you need to know that the women's diamond down LAnd's Ends jacket (new ones) is only US$79 and take another %40 off...kids down $50! The price is only for today but the %40 off discount is on for a little but longer. Happy Shopping! You'll have so much now that you're not building :rotfl2:

Funny story Shushh, I always remember you raving about the Lands End jackets so about 2 weeks ago they were on sale so I bought everyone coats and the day they were delivered I received the 40% off email. :headache:.

Bummer huh. I just thought I should jump at them while they were on sale, little did I know what a mistake I was making :rotfl2:. Oh well, we have our coats and gloves now. And shock upon shock, everyone's coats fitted perfectly and everyone is happy, even DH.

Thanks for thinking of me though you lovely thing.

Oh gee! such BIG decisions and BIG outcomes!

Yay for you!! that's a lotta planning!

Thanks Sugarglider

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: Congrats on your big decision that is so exciting for you all 2 trips to plan so happy for you all. :yay::yay:

:cheer2::cheer2:Happy planning :cheer2::cheer2:

Thank you WAMUM, as I said, we were so lucky to still love our home so it really ended up being the easiest decision in the world once we were in the right place mentally to decide.

How exciting:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

Happy to answer your questions on London, Paris and DLP with kids.

Enjoy the planning.

I will absolutely be picking your brain AWIDYet

Ahhhh, okay, well I will have to do some research on that. I think we would be better to try to book with the one carrier though because we will have alot of luggage I would imagine. All those winter clothes and my DH's shopping :lmao:

Doh! Never mind, they are still good value even when not on sale. Glad they fit!

Your trips sound excellent! we plan on going to Canada for Christmas in 2 or 3 years (plus DL), I can't wait for a white Christmas. And the UK is my dream, maybe 2 or 3 years after that. And we made a similar decision on houses - we were going to put a 2nd storey on, but after looking at the costs, decided to go with a much cheaper back room, and still have money for trips! Good compromise.

Congrats on the upcoming trips Ms.Shuttergirl. Both the US and Europe trips sound wonderful, so much exciting planning ahead

Yes I still thought they were good value

I can't wait for a white Christmas too. Now that I know we have added Canada to the trip and I am guaranteed snow (hopefully) I'm not worried about getting snow in NYC.

Congrats on the upcoming trips Ms.Shuttergirl. Both the US and Europe trips sound wonderful, so much exciting planning ahead

Thanks so much.

Oh Miss Shuttergirl, I am sooooooooo happy for you!!!:cool1::banana:

I just planted the seed to DH today of perhaps doing an Alaska cruise in the July school holidays in 2013 (we are limited to school holiday travel now that DD13 will be Year 10 next year and Year 11 in 2013 :sad2:). He says I always take him to warm places (and yes, he's right about that :thumbsup2) and he wants a change so I figure Alaska would be cold enough for him but would mean that I still get to do a cruise  So, although it's not Disney, at least it's my other top travel love, a cruise. I got a tentative positive response :woohoo:
