Finally saw Tink Fly! Here's our picture!

My SIL took a behind the secnes tour and said the weather has to be just right for Tink to fly. She has to weigh under 125 lbs, I think. There are 2 others in the tower to push her up and out the window. She gets a full days paycheck for that less than one minute flight. She ends up on a mattress on top of a warehouse, not even still inside the Magic Kingdom.

Really? I didn't know Tink was a real person, I always thought that it was a dummy, I didn't know an actual person got to fly on the wire, what a cool job!!

Here's a stupid question, but how do you know which window she'll be coming out of? Can you follow the wire with your eyes to see it? I remember seeing Tink fly many times as a kid growing up at DL in So Cal, and I remember that she was what I considered to be an "old lady" back then! It's funny, but now that I realize how flawed my memory is, who knows how old she really was! :flower:

Yes, you can see the wire. Not so much at night of course. :)

Hi everyone,
This is my first "official" post. I've been lurking for a few weeks & I must admit I've become addicted!

When my family went in Nov 04, we sat directly under the wire, so Tinkerbell flew right over our heads. It was so cool! Of couse, my mom had left her camera in the room, so we didn't get a picture :sad2: Hopefully we'll be prepared next time.

I had to tell someone this when they asked me a few weeks ago, when I was at MK. :rolleyes1

Actually she gets $500 per flight, more then a full days pay.

Great picture, Liznboys! Seeing Tink fly is one of our favorite things to see while we are at WDW. Maybe one day I'll get my act together and get a picture of it! :teeth:

Awesome Pic!! We saw TInk Fly in 2002 but didn't get a pic - we didn;t get to see her last year - I am hoping that we see her and get a pic this next week!! :cool1:

What an awesome picture!!!

I've been the past 2 years, and I'm going again in October. I saw Wishes the past 2 trips and saw Tink fly both times. I never realized it was a real person....how cool! I've seen the wire from the castle so we knew where she flew from, just never dawned on me that it was a real person! Can't wait for this years trip, I hope she'll fly for us!

We didn't get a picture either, but we watched from the Poly beach on 5/18 & 5/19 and we saw a little greenish light glide down from the castle. Dh and I also went on the Keys to the Kingdom tour where they show you were Tink lands and it is really neat.

here are some great pictures that we were able to capture just before tink came down...

I took the KTTK tour May 14th and had a great tour guide. He took us back to where Tink lands and told us all about her flight. The landing site is still inside the MK, only in a backstage area. He said their Tink recently retired. She was a 90 lb. Romanian gymnist who got paid a full day's pay for her few seconds of flight each night. They recently hired a new Tink along with two backups to cover in case she is sick or off. She gets dressed by herself each night in Walt's apartment, then climbs a narrow stairwell to the tower with two helpers behind her. There is just barely enough room for the three of them. She is then attached to the wire and must be 'pushed' out the window in order to have enough speed to finish her flight and land into a mattress on top of the building at the end. If she doesn't have enough speed to land into the mattress, then she will have to pull herself hand over hand until the other two helpers at the end of her flight can reach her to get her down. The guide said he guessed she would fly until she got tired of being pushed out of a window every night or else old enough to retire like the other Tink recently did. Anyway he said it took four helpers in addition to Tink to make the nightly flight--two to push her out the window and two to get her off the cable at the end and to help her get down in case she doesn't have enough speed to hit the mattress. Although he said that about 95% of the time she has plenty of speed. Oh, he also said that he heard that Tink out in DL now flies around the castle, but that she is an animotronic.
