Finally registered for my Real Estate classes

I am not an agent but work for one of these large chains. We do not sell our agents this marketing tool that you say. I do know that for the first two transactions our agents pay a certain percentage out to the office. That is for all the support and hand holding they get walking them through the first 2. Our training is also free. Keep in mind that most of those large chaines are franchised and are independtly owned and operated. It also depends where you live.

I am looking to make money for my family not invest in a franchise!LOL!

I imagined that the chains are franchises, I am (kind of) looking for a smaller real estate co to work for in MA.
So far no luck.

I ll probably wait until I move to FL. Better possibilities.

The real estate market here is the middle income properties (we live in a suburb of Boston) average housing of 400.000.00 and up are sitting for a while (which is most of homes in Suburbia) but the million dollar homes and up the builders can keep up or find enough land to build them!

Anyone have anything else to ad from MA?
I am looking for positive things about the business right now..........

After going to a couple of chain* real estate companies I learned they try to sell* you a marketing tool ( I have 2 degrees one happens to be in Marketing)
for 2500.00!

I've worked for two big franchises; Re/Max and Keller Williams. I was never asked, or required to purchase any marketing tools, or anything else for that matter. They did however take a TON of my commission!

I'm now with an independent 100% franchise and I only pay them around $400 a year in fees. It's great!

Something just happened to me, literally five minutes ago. I got a job offer from a production builder and go in for a face-to-face meeting on Tuesday. The money in this position is huge, but the hours are bad. I have so much freedom now and will lose it all if I go to work for someone. Plus that, I have my upcoming WDW vacation planned!

What are board fees like in other parts of the country? They were $1100 prorated for April and on at the one I was going to join last year. And you have to be a member to work in town.

For me it was just too much money in a town where I didn't know anyone and I didn't think I would end up making money. Also, I didn't feel like I was going to be getting much in the way of training. The other gentleman that was going to join the same office (small local) ended up leaving to go to a larger chain office.

I pay around $400 a year in annual dues and $65 a quarter for MLS fees. I'm not a big fan of January!

I don't know if there are Keller Williams offices where you are, but they have an excellent training program. I'm lucky enough to be at an independent agency that offers training. That's rare.

Our dues are around $300 and the MLS is $118/quarter.

I'm going to be working for a company that offers free training as well. They also offer the schooling at a cheaper rate:

Practice Lass $165
Fundamentals $165

I know they do take a big cut from the first 6 transactions but that is because they offer a center to help with those. If you join a team, than it's different. Our office is independently owned/operated, such friendly and sucessful agents. I talked to 2 people who did the training and said it was worth it and it's better once you get done your 6 transactions. The experience & training is what's more important to me right now...if I'm good, I'll get through the 6 in no time.

My experience was that I left school with a lot of book knowledge, but not a lot of "I know what I'm doing" knowledge. You really have to get out there and write some offers to learn.

I've been doing this for awhile now and still, every contract is different. I'm still learning! I leave in a few minutes to take a listing on a condo and I've never done that before, so here I go again!

When you really learn, is when a sale busts out. Those are real fun. But let me tell you, you never let the same mistakes happen again!
