I finally got around to reading The Davinci Code... is the part about Walt Disney true?

"Disney had made it his quiet life's work to pass on the Grail story to future generations....Walt Disney loved infusing hidden messages and symbolism in his art... Sleeping Beauty's princess Aurora code name Rose..was a the Grail story for children..." and so on...

Good question. I wonder if anyone knows. I would be inclined to say that that part is based on artistic license, but who knows?

I'd be surprised if it was true, but it made a neat tie-in for the book. :)

They also made reference to The Little Mermaid, but that was after Walt Disney's time.

It was all pretty interesting though.

There is a theory that because Walt named the club in Disnaeyland "Club 33", he was a member of the highest level of the Freemasons (a 33rd degree Mason.) Actually, though, the club wasn't named until after his death. He had nothing to do with the name. He was a member of the original Mother Chapter of the Order of DeMolay - which Mickey Mouse was also an honorary member.

If you do an Internet search on "Walt Disney" and Freemason, the only sites that claim he was a freemason also claim OJ Simpson was a CIA mind-controlled slave.

The whole book is artistic license. The DaVinci code is historical fiction, not history.

Historical fiction = A fictional work that takes place in the confines of real historical events.

Some could make the same claim about the Bible.

As for the Walt Disney thing, I'm sure there are shreds of
evidence supporting what was in the book, but I doubt
it is 100% accurate.

Oh I just bought the DaVinci Code. I'll keep an eye out for the parts about uncle Walt!

I remember some hoopla about The Little Mermaid when it was released. It was either that some cloud or cave thing mentioned S E X .

You could investigate this further by doing the following:

1) find the painting in question andfind a image for it

2) find the movie and skip to that scene and compare the images

There is a still of the shot in the illustrated version of the DaVinci code. I'll have to check out my DVD of it sometime to compare.

Actually in the Little Mermaid one of the castle spires was phallic shaped. In the Lion King supposedly the stars in one scene spelled out S E X

Kinda fun to think about though. The author did a really good job making fiction seem like non-fiction.

I have that copy of the "Little Mermaid" ....the castle does have one turret that looks questionable on the cover!

Are you implying that he's not?!?!!? :confused3

I absolutely loved the Divinci Code - you have to go and read all of Brown's other books now. Angels and Demons, IMO, is even better than Divinici Code - it is the precursor. They are making it into a movie - Tom Hanks is starring - I can't wait!

Both Walt and Roy were Masons. Walt was not particularly active and Roy left the fraternity after he was married. His wife was Catholic and the Catholic church officially forbids its members from being Masons. Therefore, he perceived so animosity between the two and, wisely, chose loyalty to his wife. I am a Mason, but luckily my wife is a Methodist. ;)

The part in the book about Walt and the grail story is made up, I believe.

There are lots of little insider jokes in Disney movies. The "S-E-X" in the Lion King is actually in the dust and leaves when Simba flops down and the wind picks up (eventually carrying to where Rafiki feels / scents him in it, discovering that he's alive). The animators say that it actually says "S-F-X", which is the symbol for some special effects company they worked with (I think). But the letters are definitely there...You can see the image at snopes.com:

There was also the case of the 'horny' priest in the Little Mermaid too. At the end, when the old priest is getting ready to marry Ursula (in disguise)to a drugged Prince Eric, the priest moves around a bit and according to the human decency people, it looks like the priest has an erection. Disney always claimed it was his knee or something though.

The actual story of the Little Mermaid was actual written long ago by Hans Christian Anderson, so who knows in Walt's papaers that he didn't want to do that story when he was alive.
