Finally, New laws start to reduce "taken"!

Finally! Staff are starting to really push no taken laws! Alleluia! Who saw this in the newsletter?!



3/13 – Remember, it's against the VMK Values to create or open ANY type of 'relationship' room (rooms that include words like 'meet,' 'pick,' 'get,' 'find,' 'have,' 'TAKEN,' etc.) in VMK. You'll be warned and possibly banned for opening any type of room that promotes this activity.

I don't know about you, but it's about time! What's your opinion?

Truthfully, I do not believe it is going to change anyone's behavior, AT ALL Just in the VMK Esplanade today, someone was asking if there were any cute girls not taken. Then of course, a bit later, some girl piped up and said she needs to be "taken." Jegrezo did her best to try and convince the girl that she DOES NOT know who is behind the computer and the girl's reply, "I'm is sicking of hearing that"

Now, removing "taken" or any other meaning/form of the word is NOT going to stop the rooms that kids create for "dances, etc" ... I just do not see how VMK is going to enforce this Are they going to use a Magic 8 Ball, like they do for allowing names

I totally agree. I think taken is completely wrong, and, frankly, disgusting. Who knows if an eight year-old child is "taken" to some forty year-old psycho... It's utterly apalling, in my opinion. One way to deal with it is to make humor out of it. Whenever I see someone asking, "Are you taken" I say things like, "Taken where?" It's one way to ease your pain

Why cant we just respect each other no matter if its a family of mummy and duh duh.......or a group of dogs or monkeys. If I booted ppl from my trade room for doing taken, or family things or even pretending to be animals.......it would be empty.

Plz respect each other and help keep us all safe. There is so much more to worry about. LIke why can't we openly talk about our religious views in vmk. For instance.........we play with a friend who has cancer. She has very little time left in this world. We attempted to sit and pray with her one nite and got a room warning.

Oh well just my thoughts.

It is against values to do a TAKEN room but you can still be taken, ask if anyone is taken and everything else related to taken. Taken is allowed just not rooms.

Yep this news has been around (and part of the newsletter & VMK Values) for the last couple of weeks.

As of right now, the only thing VMK is being specific about is the rooms themselves. Nothing about "taken" in general.

It could be a 10 year old girl and a 60 year old man. We don't know. There is nothing safe about this taken game, which is why we are so excited to see this action being taken. If there are people in real life who are married to each other, it's really not a lot to ask them to keep the romance outside of a kid-friendly game. I'm married and my husband plays...believe me, we're not put off by not doing taken in the game. We find it incredibly inappropriate.

As far as religious views being discussed in a kid-friendly game...that's a can of worms right there. Because honestly then, where does it stop? We have to remember that this game is not just played with by older teens and adults....but by young kids...very young kids. As you said, we need to help keep this place safe. And keeping the controversy out of a game where it simply doesn't belong is part of keeping it safe. If people who want to play are interested in participating in things like that, there are plenty of other venues outside of VMK that cater to that.

Well said I totally agree

Not naming any names but there is a certain Diser that when he sees us Harrasses us constantly about being taken. People just don't realize that maybe if there is a couple together in real that maybe they wanna be together in vmk as well.
There is no need for harrassing ppl for the way they play vmk. If its within vmk values, mind your own business, and be thankful that We are given the freedom to move to another room or press ignore if something bothers us such as "Taken"

Because then what religions (or anti-religion) causes do they support? How far would it go? Etc etc etc? There has to be a line drawn and you may not like it, but it's there. Adults don't belong in a kid friendly game? Why? There's no rule about that and as long as adults are behaving appropriately and not bringing elements into a game that don't belong there, then why shouldn't they be there?

How many couples do you know who go on VMK for the purpose of being taken by the other? Not to say it doesn't happen, but I'd bet they are in the minority. I see on a daily basis people who clearly have no idea who the other person is and then they literally beg to be taken by them. They have no idea what an unsafe idea that is. You may think I'm butting into people's business and "harrassing" them, but honestly I have no problems about reminding those people that they really don't know just who they are talking to and to be careful.

So someone stepping in saying "hey, you may not want to do that" can help people. Think about it this way...is it really safe for a child to be taken by a sexual predator? Because the reality is...they very well could be when things like this are done. Taken may not be banned right now, but all signs are pointing to the fact that it's definitely headed that way. And thank goodness!!

Anyway, I won't argue about it further....just trying to show perspective that if we want to keep VMK safe, we have to recognize that something like this can be (and is in some cases) unsafe. And VMK Staff is starting to take action.

You are right we dont know who is who on vmk. Age wise.. Of course vmk prevents us from saying our age, but we can certainly find sites like dis board that opens the doors wide open to ppl allowing us to talk openly and state our ages, even our locations. But there are alot of Older peeps on vmk that have young kids on their friend list
Would you want your 11 12 13 year old son or daughter even being "friends" with a 20,30, 40 year old male or female.
I highly doubt society would condone a 12 year old male being friends with a 30 something female, vise verse... and I see it daily in vmk.

Personally if you wanna make vmk a safer place get rid of the vmk boards that allow ppl to share their personal information. Get rid the word dis, which countless ppl add to their signature to show they are a member. Does that tell sexual predators hey you wanna know how to contact me outside of vmk.. well I belong to dis!! Find me there.. No dictionary dancing required. come check out my proflie, see my age even my location. Get close to me and hey even private message me if you want.

I am not against taken. I think that it is nice for many of the little ones to have a special someone that they play games with and get to know daily. It is just like having your first boyfriend (girlfriend) at school. I had my first boyfriend in second grade. I didn't know what it meant to have a 'boyfriend', but I sure knew that I wanted Gerry to play kickball on my team every recess. Getting to know someone in the lobby of a game, seeing them every day and playing with them....that is so cool.....and part of the 'hanging out and having fun' that is stated in the FAQ about VMK.
I think that the relationship rooms were a bad idea. That was a breeding ground for lonely kids to look for someone to reach out to and feel a connection. We all know how easy it would be to lie and deceive someone in VMK. I think that those types of rooms were just asking for trouble.

How refreshing to read a post that looks at both sides of the coin and does not bash someone. I agree with you. Early in life we begin our search for that special someone. It starts in the school yard. We see someone we think is cool, we bounce a soccer ball off their head to get their attention. Ahh young love. The fact cant be ignored that there sick ppl amoung us, hiding under mickey ears. But if you think about it through dictionary dancing most of the vmk players even younger than us talk about being on my space or another unprotected site. So again I agree. It is fun to have that special someone to enjoy the game with.
