Thank you all once again for all the kind thoughts and prayers you all sent my way the last couple of months. I owe you an update, and I finally feel up to it.

I had the mastectomy and the beginnings of the reconstruction on Sept. 18th. Surgery went well with no complications. We received the pathology results 2 weeks later. They had removed 8 lymph nodes and one was positive for cancer, the other 7 negative. My oncologist recommended having another surgery to remove the remaining lymph nodes with chemotherapy to follow.

I don’t have to tell you how devastating that news was. We were so convinced that the mastectomy would take care of everything. After all, my mammogram was fine last year so how far could it spread in one year!

I had the lymph node surgery on Oct. 9th (only one overnight this time!). We received the results from that last week. They took out another 19 during that surgery and all were negative. Yeah – we were so happy.

Met with the chemo doctor last week and I begin treatments on October 30th. I have to have 4 treatments total – one every three weeks. I also have to have few tests and procedures before chemo can begin. We’re going to try and do the reconstruction at the same time and see if I can take both together – we’ll see.

We’re doing fine, my husband has been very helpful through all this. My DD (5) is handling things well, she’s a real trouper and keeps surprising me. Just told her about the upcoming hair loss yesterday. As bad as it is, it could always be worse!

My family, friends and neighbors have all gone above and beyond. I am very blessed to have all these wonderful people in my life. And that includes all you DISer’s who were kind enough to take a moment and say a prayer or send me an email. I appreciate every one more than I could ever say. Thank you a million times over.

Kathi

Kathi, I can't pretend I know what you are going through, but I offer any support I can. I've said a prayer and I'll send you some pixie dust, but I wish I could do more. {{{hugs}}} I hope the treatments are easy for you.

Kathi, thank you so much for giving this update. I have been thinking of you and am glad to hear from you :) I wish you all the best during your chemo treatments and will keep you in my prayers. {{{hugs}}}

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. I went through all this since February with my mom. She did chemo which ended in July and we just finished radiation. She had a 2.0cm tumor removed by lumpectomy, 3/11 nodes positive. She is doing great now.

Just want you to know that it is not the end of the world. I know right now it doesn't seem like it, but keep thinking positive thoughts. You WILL beat this beast!!! It's not the best of times, but it certainly isn't the worst.

If you need to talk, please email or PM me.

Felicia

Good luck to you and your family! I'm sure your DD will handle everything wonderfully- kids do a lot better than most people give them credit for :) My father had cancer when I was about 9. So far everything seems pretty positive :) Good luck with the chemo- bring some hard candies with you- I remember it was my job to remember the candies, my dad always said the chemo left a metal taste in his mouth:confused:

Thanks for the update, Kathi. My prayers have been and will continue for you for a complete recovery. As you know, Marie's cancer also necessitated surgery, chemo, 4 months/8 treatments, along with a solid month of radiation. Today, 4 years later, she is doing great. Keep your spirits up, even though you may be down attimes, goes with the territory. Please feel free to pm/email me or Lady M. Be tough, be hopeful, as you do seem. Laugh at the silly things, laughter helps. Prayer helps. My best for you, please stay in touch with us here on the DIS, your other family.

Hugs,

Dan

My thoughts are with you during this difficult time, Kathi. I can not imagine what it is like to be in your shoes, just know that your DIS friends are hear thinking about you and sending prayers your way.

Kathi, my thoughts and prayers will be with you. I just went thru all this myself - they found a 2 cm lump on my mammogram back in Feb., had lumpectomy in March, started chemo in April, radiation in July and just finished up the end of August. It's a tough thing to go thru, but you can do it! The hair thing is weird, but it saves so much time getting ready in the morning! ;)

Hang in there; if you need to talk to someone, please feel free to pm me. YOU CAN DO IT!!

My thoughts and prayers are with you Kathi, for a complete recovery. You are lucky to have your DH and a daughter to make you smile.

A Big {HUG} for you

My thoughts and prayers are with you. {{{{hugs}}}}

So glad to hear from you! I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers that things continue to go well for you! You can beat this!

It's really good to hear from you. I'm glad things are looking better. I'm continuing to pray for your complete recovery. Write me if you'd like to talk. You'll be in my thoughts. You can do this. Just take it one day at a time.

So nice to hear from you Kathi. Have kept you in my prayers and will continue to do so.

I'm so happy that you seem to be doing so well. I know what you are going through, my mom is going through the same thing right now. Be glad that they took the "right" lymph nodes out and found it early, with my mom they didn't and hers came back. I'm sorry if that sounds bad, I don't mean to sound insensitive, it is JMHO. Good luck with the chemo and radiation, you are strong, you can do it!

{{{{HUGS}}}} Keeping you in my prayers.

Kathi,

You sound SO upbeat. As anyone can tell you, positive mental attitude helps out oodles. You are in my thoughts.

The only advice I can give you is this: when my girlfriend was going thru her treatment her daughter was 3.5 YO. They felt it would be way traumatic for DD to see big clumps of hair falling out, so she got a really cute short short haircut before she started chemo. Of course, her hair never fell out!

Good Luck to you and a {{hug}} to your family.

Debbie
