Thank you all once again for all the kind thoughts and prayers you all sent my way the last couple of months. I owe you an update, and I finally feel up to it.
I had the mastectomy and the beginnings of the reconstruction on Sept. 18th. Surgery went well with no complications. We received the pathology results 2 weeks later. They had removed 8 lymph nodes and one was positive for cancer, the other 7 negative. My oncologist recommended having another surgery to remove the remaining lymph nodes with chemotherapy to follow.
I dont have to tell you how devastating that news was. We were so convinced that the mastectomy would take care of everything. After all, my mammogram was fine last year so how far could it spread in one year!
I had the lymph node surgery on Oct. 9th (only one overnight this time!). We received the results from that last week. They took out another 19 during that surgery and all were negative. Yeah we were so happy.
Met with the chemo doctor last week and I begin treatments on October 30th. I have to have 4 treatments total one every three weeks. I also have to have few tests and procedures before chemo can begin. Were going to try and do the reconstruction at the same time and see if I can take both together well see.
Were doing fine, my husband has been very helpful through all this. My DD (5) is handling things well, shes a real trouper and keeps surprising me. Just told her about the upcoming hair loss yesterday. As bad as it is, it could always be worse!
My family, friends and neighbors have all gone above and beyond. I am very blessed to have all these wonderful people in my life. And that includes all you DISers who were kind enough to take a moment and say a prayer or send me an email. I appreciate every one more than I could ever say. Thank you a million times over.
