Has anyone here seen the trailer for "Predators"? I saw it on Youtube and was hooked! It looks like a VERY interesting movie and I will hit the theaters once the crowd dwindles. I never was a fan of parts two and three because they don't even fit the definition of a sequel and could have stood on their own. In "Predators," some of the meanest bounty hunters in the world are captured and dropped off on a planet with DOZENS of Predators and it's a game of "last one standing." Even Arnold gave the director a thumbs up. For the first time since "Alien," I have high hopes for a movie sequel. (They have got to stop making "Saw" sequels! I'm sure they'll have Saw VII, VIII and IX!! This must stop!! The director is having too much fun torturing his audience.)

Are you planning to see it? I think it'll do well but sadly, it's up against very stiff competition as "Eclipse" is still destroying its competitors at the ticket office even after the 4th of July. On the other hand, maybe I'll get lucky and snag a theater that isn't jam-packed. They're also planning to release a sequel to "Paranormal Activity." Hmm, choices, choices. Which one should I see...

The pairing of Robert Rodriguez and the Predator legacy is probably the last hope for the franchise. If Rodriguez can't do anthing with it, then Predator should be put down once and for all. I was hoping Rodriguez would direct the film, but Nimrod Antal is an interesting up and coming action director. Antal has a directing style closer to the long-cut action scenes of the 80s like Die Hard, instead of all the quick-cut shakey cam garbage that seems to 'fake' the action in a lot of today's wanna-be action movies. That should be a good match for a Predator flick.

I'm not too concerned with how it does at the box office, I just want an all-out old school Predator action flick. No sequels, just do the subject matter proud and go out on a high note!

I agree. Even though I loved the first Predator film, if Antal and Rodriguez don't impress me with their latest work, the series should be shelved for good. I still can't believe Disney is planning Pirates 4!:scared1:

Saw it this last weekend. No genuine spoilers here, but I will say that there are NOT dozens of Predators. We thought it was okay, but not fantastic.

I saw it on Friday. I enjoyed it, and my husband and I both agreed it was a "real" Predator movie. It wasn't perfect but it was good, and there were lots of nods to the original movie. I do agree with indimom, though. The trailers might have been a little bit misleading. The storyline wasn't quite what I had expected from the previews, but I'm glad I saw it and I would watch it again.

I would have to agee with this comment. It was an entertaining movie and we will add it to our DVD collection when I comes out.

I like the first Predator, and loved all of the Alien movies, but AVP...not so much. I hope this fares better.

I'll be the odd man out. I disliked it quite a bit. There was ZERO suspense or tension here and not much of a story (it was really just a waiting game until each cast member got picked off by the predators). Outside of a surprisingly decent performance from Adrien Brody, there was nothing I liked about this one.

Stick with the original.

I love Predator and Alien movies. They have been my favorite for ever. DD16 loves them to. But we both HATED and I mean HATED AvPR. That was the worst movie ever made. It was like okay lets make an AvP movie but mess it up a much as we can.

The New predator movie looks good. We saw a preview for it and DD16 hops up and says mom we have to see it.

Normally, I would agree with you. There are only so many sequels a movie can have before it becomes a joke. With Saw however, I disagree. SAW VI was the best one yet (besides the original of course). I have hopes that VII will be just as good, even better!

As for Predators, yes, I plan on seeing it.

I love all but one of the Predator and Alien flicks. I even like both AVP's. I am a fan of the cheesy sci-fi and I even watch SYFY original movies, like Stonehenge Apocalypse.:lmao:

It is Alien 3, I didn't care for.

That being said, probably will not go see it in the theater.

Predator 2 was on TV last night. :) We own all but the requiem movie and we enjoy them, but I'm looking forward to seeing Predators. I always liked the Predator much more then the Alien. :) We will wait until it's out on DVD tho, gotta love that Red Box. :)

I finally went to see it. I snagged the first show of the morning. I cannot believe some people go to the last show of the day (11:30 PM!). The price at 10:30 AM? $4.99. At 11:30 PM? $9.00!! Yikes!

I never thought of Predator 2 or AVP as a sequel since they can stand on their own without needing background info. Predators was a real sequel and I feel that picking up where the previous movie left off is a good way to start. However, I admit the plot was a bit too simple but the director and Rodriguez probably felt they didn't want to risk too much by making the plot too murky or confusing. I remember the atrocious Tom Cruise movie Mission Impossible. The plot was so complex and poorly done that I got lost and didn't even bother to finish the movie. I think Predators is a worthy sequel. Everyone didn't do a bad job. Brody and Fishbourne really stood out. Normally, I find this distracting as "stealing the show" is frowned upon by many audiences. In this movie, oddly, it works by getting your attention. Of course, there will be a few gruesome scenes but they're brief. And an "old friend" makes a re-appearance. Although I felt it was a bit cheesy that one character struck a deal with this "friend," it did kinda help the movie. I felt that the scene between the Yakuza hitman was too brief. The swordfight in Kill Bill Vol. 1 still takes my breath away so sadly, I feel the audience was robbed of something great. The ending was a bit of a letdown but I feel that it had to be done that way. If they had the two surviving characters developing a romantic interest, it would have made the ending far worse so I feel Antal and Rodriguez made the right decision. Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10, I give this movie a 7.5. I honestly feel I'm not being overly generous as I was a bit worried it would suddenly bomb in the middle and leave me feeling bitterly disappointed. It kept me interested right to the end.

BTW, Indimom, about the trailer: sadly, it's common for directors to whet the viewer's appetite by overdoing the scene or even putting in a scene that never appears in the movie! There are two scenes in the trailer for Mr & Mrs Smith that never showed up in the actual film!

And Brocktoon, I'm VERY happy that Antal and Rodriguez resisted going with the MEGA-cheesy overdone shaky camera effects that seem to be popping up in nearly all action films these days. If they had done the Blair Witch approach, I would have left the theater 10 minutes into the movie. (The Blair Witch Project was the first movie that introduced the shaky camera effect to widespread audiences. Oddly, at some showings, a few people left the theaters vomiting because they got motion sickness!)

This movie won't win any acadamy awards but it was a fun summer action flick. There were enough cliche's to choke Steven Spielberg, BUT it was a kind of tongue-in-cheek movie so I bought it and enjoyed myself.

Maybe I'm a weirdo but I LOVED Predator 2 and I found Predators to be a good addition to the franchise.

Adrien Brody was surprising here. His character was a total bad...well I can't finish that statement on the DIS, but I thoroughly enjoyed his tough guy portrayal.

Topher Grace...well I just love him no matter what. His character was snivelling and a wuss and had some of the best lines. I've enjoyed watching his progression on screen.

Fun movie. If you are looking for something to do during a matinee or have a cheapee theatre near you, go and check it out.

I loved Predator 2 as well. Could have done without Gary B. in it, but it had Adam Baldwin so that puts extra in the plus column.

It's been on a couple of time here in the last 2-3 weeks. The kids have been watching it and love it. DS15 laughed so hard the first time watching it, when the old lady came out with the broom to fend off whatever was making the racket in the bathroom.

In Predator 2, I think the funniest scene was when the old lady, in a previous scene whispered to her lazy husband: "Herb! Herb!! There's something in the bathroom!":happytv:

I like Predators as it's solely on them. I do find AvPR better then AvP but Preds is better then those.

Anyone catch the face on the new Super Pred?

Saw it last night and actually loved it, just good old summer action movie fun (and can someone comfirm one actor, the Mexican enforcer is also the family friend from Spy Kids). And yes, I was happily drooling over Adrien Brody and was suprised with Topher Grace.

They weren't super-preds. Just a different type of PRedator. They were described by LAwrence Fishburne's character as being smaller than the other ones, and the bigger guys (who live up high on the mountain IIRC) were the "bosses" or "ruling class" while the littler guys were like underlings.
