Final Payment???????

Okay, I have a question for all you experts that I have not seen posted here before.....


Is there any advantage to paying off your cruise before the final payment date?? I have the remaining money sitting in a seperate bank account all set to pay and my final balance is not due until November. If there is any advantage to paying it off now, I will!! Let me know what you think!

well you won't be tempted to spend it but it may be making you interest ?

also i have heard on these boards that it is possible (only a rumour) that upgrades are sometimes given out on fully paid cruises ??

No advantage of paying it off early other than it's paid off that I can think of.

We've been paid off for like a month or two now. Honestly it's nice. I can think "ok, thats one less thing to do". etc.

No advantage at all. My TA has a system where she automatically bills the final payment to my credit card 7 days before it is due. We allow the week as a "just in case" so I can get the confirmation that it went thru.

We have been upgraded 3 times out of 10 cruises. I don't think upgrades have anything to do with final payments. I've been told that they have to do with early bookings and gty status rooms, but again, can't confirm that.

Kelli: We are taking the same date cruise as you are and we have been trying to decide on paying the cruise off also. Our problem is that we are watching the exchange rates to get the best rate for our money. I guess we'll just keep waiting till the exchange gets better...or at least pray it gets a bit better. I had heard about the chance of an upgrade too so maybe I'll go ahead and try to prove the theory!

on the flip side, we made our final payment 3 weeks late and there was no penalty for late payment...
i didn't do it on purpose, but simply forgot (i'd made the reservations a year earlier)..
i made them direct with DCL and they didn't remind me....i simply remembered on my own and called them up..
then i didn't even pay that day, but waited until DCL's computer was back up the next week...
